Hello! Thinking a QP is more reliable than Merc CL or V8 BMW

I'm sorry to have to point this out, but if you want a BMW that is quicker, handles better, comfier, better tech, and more reliable than a QP... you just need a 335D
Yes but it's a BMW diesel. You definitely don't leave the windows open in a tunnel just to hear the exhaust!!
Also I had one (435) and it just didn't seem to have the gearing/power/torque quite in the right place imho.

CL has air suspension and coil pack problems costing ££££. BMW V8 valve stem leaks, coolant transfer pipe rust, and more oil leaks. It seems quality german engineering is a myth. All my Porsches had problems. My Ferrari 430 on the other hand has been faultless after 7 years of ownership. So is a QP the way forward? Always thought they are the best looking saloon. Prefer the original QPV shape. Is there a buyers guide on here?

I have one - keep it well maintained and they are fine. I have just 2500 miles around Europe and mechanically it didn't miss a beat, although a small plastic part busts and the wife's door wont open from the inside, but I put that down to Italian charm

Don't disagree but I am sure I have read of 2010's being found with an engine number below 697. Might be wrong as always.
The uprated cars with the engine post 148697 were late summer 2009 build. There will be cars registered in 2010 and maybe even 2011 which are early engine no’s as they sit around dealers. For instance, there are 2009 reg’d Duo Selects around and they’re 2006 build. Conversely there are late engine no. cars which are 09/59 reg’d and went more or less straight to their new owners from the factory. It’s simple, check the engine no. is >148697.

My one (and Benny has the same) is remapped to 400+bhp and 700+nm, everything is in the right place.

In fairness, I got it mapped pretty much from brand new, so can't recall what it was like without the map.

Like many of us here, I've had all kinds of performance cars over the years from high reving 4 pots, to Italian and American V8s and V10... But I'm smitten with a 6 cylinder twin turbo, 4wd, diesel :D

I've spent the summer near my uncle's 325td (2008 reg) and is indeed very well build and effective. I can only imagine whats it would be like if chipped to M3 levels of power and more torque. Looks aside, comparing to the QPV the BMW works a lot better as a daily driver as it is smaller/nimble and in the long run should be relatively trouble free (would that apply to those with extreme power calibration?). The QPV is a larger car and a lot more comfy for long trips, particularly at the back seats. I am 6'2 and couldn't sit straight at the rear of the BMW (it was a coupe if it makes any difference). And those Italian leather seats are spectacular.

You see I would have put that down to my wife being careless and given her grief for months. Also gives you a free pass when you need it.

did anyone have a car before their Maserati where they;
always look over your shoulder after parking
windows are dropped in any enclosed space (car parks / tunnels / back against a wall
pop out to collect forgotten item from the car, and someone comes to find you ten minutes later. just sitting glassy eyed, or fiddling with something / listening to tunes
skip the opportunity to be a passenger in other cars and volunteer to drive

If so - tell me abaht it because that is next for me.

BMW Z3 M Roadster with a Supersprint exhaust, carbon fibre air intake and on coilover suspension Estoril blue and black leather was a sexy car.

My Elise, both before and after extreme mods
Aston DB7 - 20 years ago
Mitsubishi 3000GT - even longer ago
Etc, etc

That was an optional extra. It means you can take her to the pub for a nice quiet pint by yourself she can't escape to go the shops while you're in there.

Fair comment - They are all nice motors and all have been on my list. Is the M3 a lot nicer inside than regular 3 ? Had 7 series and tried a replacement but dismayed to find same cockpit two generations later. Bought Alfa 166 instead.
Still can't imagine loafing around in the Elise - quite a spartan workplace.

The modern M cars are a fair bit different inside than a non-M, different seats, steering wheel, pedals, more buttons, difference dash and HUD layouts, etc.
My 335D is an M-Sport, which from an interior point of view the differences are fairly minor compared to the poverty spec version.

The Elise is a very special place to be... at the right time.
Blatting round a circuit; there isn't anywhere else I'd rather be. M25 standstill traffic on the hottest day of the year; something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

I worked with James who has S1 Elise 111s and his 6"3' body happily toured Europe so I know they are a good place to be. He also always wore a jacket 'cause there was no place to put a phone! Is it common to drive round with items bouncing around the (bare alloy) footwells :D
Oh also returned high 30's mpg after long European tour.
