Hello,

So on holiday in Peak District and just as we are setting off this morning I lower window only for it it fall into the door. You can hear the motors turning and a clicking sound when pressing buttons but no movement.

The car is in at autoshield tomorrow for a service so will ask them to take a look, but is there anything I can try in the meantime? I've stuck a bin liner over the window to keep rain out but doesn't look like we'll be going very far today and prospect of a windy drive to Manchester tomorrow!!

Thanks

Ian

If you can hear the motor going then you can repair the rest of the grubbing, if u get the window up tape it on the outside to keep it up till u get home.

There is a thread on here. or the other site on how to repair.

Had the same problem mate the geared plate has given way the plate is welded to a strut the welding has failed **** Maserati welding what you can do to save you money is pop it into a garage or do it your self have the window mech removed and get the plate welded back on making sure it lines up with the original weld other wise the mech will not work as it should I used a vernier and measured from the pivot point got it within .003 tested before refitting worked purfect a quick refix

Or you can get a second hand unit from ebay for around £230 Drivers side u/k window mechanism system and motor part number 387700050

Thanks chaps.

Well it was a wet drive to Manchester, and as I was so far from home and already booked in at Autoshield, I went with their recommendation to replace the regulator (which had failed). I was lucky they could source the part at short notice, so all done within 24 hours. They suggested to avoid lowering the window fully as that is what puts the mechanism under most strain.

As an aside, really good experience at Autoshield generally. Clearly know the cars inside out, and came across as genuinely enthusiastic about the brand.

Stripped nylon gears on the regular motor or the large gear fell off, with the initial clicking sound I would say stripped nylon motor gear.

We've all been through the pain!

If the large crown gear fell off you can plug weld it back on again, I did.

If the motor stripped you can get a salvage GTV unit and swap the motor core/spindle over.

I would second Mario's advice about not putting the window down all the way.

When I repaired mine I did a lot of testing/checking with the door card off and the load on the unit when it reaches it's end stop at the bottom is immense. No wonder the original welds fail. I can't believe there wasn't a stop switch at the bottom like they have at the top of the travel!!..

I'm very careful with both windows now.. stopping them just before they reach they bottom. Knowing my luck the gears will strip instead now!

just wiped the rain off the windows of the QP and the passenger window lazily slid back into the door. Car is due to go back to workshop soon.
Is it worth the hassle fixing at home ? (possible 2 hour drive with window down)

Well at least you will be able to hear the engine and that rather distinctive exhaust note !
