Hi Paul and welcome to the best Maserati forum around. As for the roof, try opening it manually (how to, is in the handbook) and then have a look at all the locking motors. Also check the fuse.

Welcome, the Spyder is a great car (I would say that though) there is plenty of stuff on here about the roof. A bit of searching should throw up the right info.

Welcome to the best cars around!

Sounds like a boot sensor/micro switch or an alignment issue with the boot or the boot catch/lock. Does the boot think it's closed (the red bar under the car on the dash is lit if the boot thinks its open). If it does, you won't be able to operate the roof.

Oh, and when it comes to closing the boot, the trusted way is to hold it about 4 inches open then drop it - this seems to work when other methods don't. I had my boot catch re-aligned last time it was in for a service and it's been better since.

That's a very good point, the two are likely to be linked. Good spot!

Welcome.

The roof will not move if the boot is not shut. Get the boot to shut then the roof will work.

Hi Paul!
Welcome to this fantastic site!
There's no shortage of extremely experienced and helpful owners here!
As for your roof....sometimes it can be the simplest things that get things going again.
If the roof worked when you bought it, I bet it's a simple fix!
When you push the roof button, is the dash light for the roof flashing? If so it may be binding, but lets go through the check list first....
As was mentioned...make sure the trunk is shut, and the emergency brake is engaged ( double check the warning lights on the dash....you should not see the trunk (sorry...boot) ajar Light...you should see the parking light on.
(If the parking brake is pulled up, but there's no light on the dash then that would be the micro switch that isn't doing its job.)
If either of these arent being done....the roof won't budge.
Next easy check is the fuse ( refer to the owners manual for the fuse location). If all of this has been done and still no movement, then as the guys have said it could be a micro switch.
Try this stuff first and with any luck...problem solved, if not, let us know and we'll takebit from there.
Good luck & cheers!!

Hi again Paul, I forgot to mention that yes, I did have the same issue where my boot wouldn't shut properly.
There are two black rubber stoppers on either side of the trunk that you can screw in very slightly to allow the lid to shut against the lock mechanism.
I did this and now the boot does shut on the first attempt most times.
And by the way, if your lid isn't shutting properly, that will undoubtedly be the reason your top isn't working as Chrisbassett said!
Could be the rare.....zero cost to repair solution!! Sure hope so!
Cheers

Try the adjustment of the black bumpers, if you screw them in all the way and it still doesn't work, your lock may need adjusting. If it does, try loosening them until it's as far out as you can get it but always locking.

Maybe a silly question, but is the lock mechanism in the open, or closed position..?? If it is in the closed (locked) position, unlock it with the key, then try to close the boot..!!

Typical problem, sometimes you need to drop it several times, then try an assisted/slap drop....if not, needs adjusting whether at lock or otherwise

Ok, what are the symptoms? Exact description. You say the boot lock is ok, but it's still in an open position, that's what's confused me.
