How long do the brake lights stay on?

Starting issues again. Been fine all winter starting once a month but today when getting the car out of storage, it won’t start. No going into neutral although I can do this manually. Then I noticed that the brake lights go out after a few seconds. Is that normal?

On my GS they go out as soon as the pedal is released... hower the hill hold does keep the brakes on for a second or two.

The switch is just a plunger unit and may need some wd40.

They go out without starting after a few seconds with the ignition on. Also I have turned off the power and I am reconditioning the battery overnight. I know the gauges are unreliable but it showed 12.5 at the battery whilst well less than 12 on the gauge. I wonder if the ecu is getting a wrong signal.
