Or if you have sold it, how long did you own it.

Interested to see the average length of ownership, and what made you sell if you no longer own one. I am 1 year in and going strong at the moment.

I guess if you have had more than one, what's the cumulative ownership time

It's been out 7 years and 4 months in the UK so I wonder who can get close to that?

I'm on 3 years 6 months so far.

Relatively short so far..

4.2 GT just about 9 months
and the GT Sport less than a month so far...

And if my numbers came up - I'd have a new one...

I'm not a serial car changer - and when I started looking for a Maserati - after a few years without one - I assumed that I'd be back in a 4200 or a GS... But the GT was just about within the reach of what I could get past the Mrs at the time - and I found a good one.

My cars are not garage queens they get driven- but I am mindful of depreciation - and as it's a tool of my trade - unscheduled maintenance is a disaster..

+ I though that my previous 4200 was a bit "niche" quite a quirky car..

My impressions of the first GT was that it was very much more "mainstream" than the 4200... You didn't need to find excuses for anything... and just so pretty..For my purposes - perfect..

So far as the depreciation was concerned... virtually negligible ... and completely reliable.. Bought it well, have driven it well, pampered it a bit.. and moved it on - and looking at whats currently available the present owner must be feeling pretty chuffed with his deal too..

Only changed it "because I could"... Wife less worried about funds tied up in cars.. and now - after a nasty scare in the recession, comfortable with having automotive art in the garage..

The incentive to change really was that these cars have now had a relatively long production run - and what was based on good design and solid mechanicals has now been improved significantly... They've got the hang of consistent build at last.. All the engine/ transmission changes etc now rolled out - and no successor on the immediate horizon... Possible extinction of the NA V8 too... and Ferrari looking to distance itself from Maserati I think..

Whether the current GT Sport is a long term keeper - we'll see... but I've no plans to change to any other model any time soon.... and if I can balance my mileage / age of car then future depreciation and expense is manageable ..

Had my 4.2 for about 18 mths, but then circumstances allowed for an upgrade. I was going to buy a Lamborghini as every since being a boy that was what I wanted. But, I rationalised to myself (and the Mrs to be fair) that I was better off actually upgrading what I had. I've also always wanted a convertible, so in the end blew my budget that I'd thought I'd set myself of about £60k... And haven't regretted it at all. Now a mere 6mths in to ownership of this one.

Funnily enough I was thinking only the other day "would I change it?" and I couldn't think of a single car I'd switch it for. At all. Indeed I can imagine me holding on to this until say an Alfieri cabrio makes an appearance or something like that.

For note, I'm a fairly serial car changer. My daily drive changes regularly - perhaps 18mths is the max I manage to last. Just switched my Volvo after 16mths in it....for basically the same buy the estate version, in the same colour, with the same power etc. I don't even bother kidding myself now that I'll hang on to this one for perhaps 3+ years as I know I'll switch it. I think its because they're "ok" and do the job required of them. But already I've been thinking "I wonder about the new XC90..." which looks v. nice in my opinion.

Interesting to see that progression from the 4.2 to 4.7's is not uncommon. That has to be a good sign in that you guys must have been confident in the GT to up the stakes for a second one. I have been Porsche brand and car loyal in that I have had 5 997 vintage 911s of various flavours but interestingly have no interest in their replacement (991)

I arrived at the GT as I concluded with some help from Pistonheads and this forum that there is no real competitor for the niche (full 4 seater, drama, cost, beauty, noise, brand etc.)

I can only see a change if lifestyle forces it, or costs become unmanagable, and wonder if (like my sequence of Porsche's) the new generation replacement (Alferi etc.) just won't do it for me.

Seems a lot of new owners on this forum, which I guess makes sense. And Bob easily winning the length of ownership competition.

Same here. We looked at XKRs but the back seats are rubbish. With the Maser it was the space and the noise that sold it. And the beauty.

Had mine a full month.

She's the 4.2 and I absolutely love it. A dream come true for me personally.

Not a serial car changer as such - this one will stay with me a minimum of three years.

She's a weekend car so the miles will stay low.

Beyond the three year point, I'll be assessing the market here in Oz.

If 4.7s can be had for a reasonable price, may make the step up.

If not, sure I'd be happy to stay in the current beauty, all other things being equal, for 5 years all up min.

Had my GT for 6 years love it but it has taken a bit of a back seat since the Merak came on stream 2 years ago, am enjoying both though with the GT only having 22k on the clock, Have an Alfieri on order now look forward to getting that in 2017.

Great Pete, and I'm just a bit further up the A3 in near Kingston. I will look out for the Merak when I'm out on my travels.

That is one very lightly used GT. Will it survive the Alfieri?

Sound like a good opportunity of a cruise through the hindhead tunnel one Sunday morning .... at least when the roads are less mucky......?
