How to remove F1 Console (non-screw version) from a facelift 4200CC?

As described in the title, my understanding is that you place an allen key or similar through the small hole at the bottom of the console (see below) and pull up. Is that correct? Any pointers, tips, better ways of doing it?

It is as you state removed by lifting from the slot. Use a flat blade and cover bith this and the surface with tape to avoid a scratch.

I think there's a video how to do this on youtube. It might be related to gaining access to the sticky buttons.

I've done this a couple of times and it's quite straightforward. First you have to tease the thing out with a suitable tool via the slot in the rear of the panel. Once you start it moving you then have to transfer your efforts to either side of the central point of the panel. It's held in by two studs that locate into two spring loaded sockets located either side of the centre of the panel. The two studs have ends shaped like a audio jack plug. These simply push into the two spring loaded sockets. There is also a multi pin plug and socket at the rear of the panel. Just be aware of that. Hope this makes sense.
