Initial classic ownership thoughts

So after 500 miles in 2 days when car had done 200 miles in the previous 10 months by former owner what do I think?

I LOVE IT!!

Was collected by Richard from plane on Wednesday and headed up the road via Wetherby.
Dog leg first gear and a heavy but positive gearbox combined with heavy pedals reminded me very much of my old 911.
Scuttle shake and short wheel base with 250 gee gees under the bonnet makes spirited driving something to improve the concentration.
However most of the time cruising along enjoying the experience is just such a joy.
Compared to electric hoods on 2 previous rag tops I find myself checking the horizon for the weather as it isn't a 30 second job to get the top up.
Driving position is good and thick padded leather seats with suede surrounds is different.
About 27mpg coming up and no idea if that is good or bad but a lot better than the 4200.
Thought the 4200 was under the radar for petrolhead's but this is even more so.
Doubt many folk know what it is when I pass.
Guy with a 308/328 in Glasgow services clocked me and smiled.
Did see a silver 4200 as I left Wetherby and I waved but don't know if he saw me.
Passed another silver 3200/4200 tonight on the A9 and again flashed.
Maybe I will only see silver Masers in this car?
Couple of minor issues with car simply because it hasn't been used in last few years. Some of them have sorted themselves already.
Had car on ramp today checking a few things.
Mechanic was astounded by lack of rust on car. Must say I was relieved and surprised just how solid it is.
Car was rustproofed few years ago and Autoshield gave it another dose of waxoyl before I collected it.
Find it hard to imagine there is another Biturbo in the country that could be more solid than this one.
Car is not concours but it is in excellent condition considering it is 25 years old.
Another bonus is local garage can do a lot of the work as it is more low tech compared to the 4200.
Still early days but signs looking good she is a keeper.

Yes I seen that silver 4200 on the A9 too, just before Alness, waved before I remembered I was in the Alfa and got a quizzed look back :(
If I get marci's light back in this weekend I'll check the old girl over for you :as007:

It was just North of Alness when I passed it so you must just have been in front of me.
Not sure if he spotted me or not.

Not sure what I am doing this weekend but but if you are around let me know and will try and meet up.

If weather holds up (north of Scotland in summer ...what are the odds?) I will try and get some topless photos. Ooer missus!
Have a sticking brake caliper that needs freed off though. Noise is a major embarrassment !!

Thought you might appreciate the rigs behind!
Cheers Allan. Interior is so different to the modern cars.

Be better if they were working, but will turn round again. 3rd big down turn I can remember. Car looks great, look forward to seeing her in the metal sometime.

Hi Phil,

If dates for collection had tied in I would either have picked up the car and driven down or you could have collected from Richard and driven down and I would have come down to Brands and drive back but Richard was going on holiday and that kind of scuppered that thought.
Not sure of distance involved from here but probably about 1200 mile round trip.
Right weather, top down it is almost tempting!
Will watch the video link when I get home. Looks as if I need driving gloves though!
Green/blues seem popular colour suddenly!
When I first looked a few years ago before the 4200 they were mostly red on the market.
Saw the odd one in that time but a few have popped up just recently.
Also meant to say with the wind deflector in position (now there is a bit of fun attaching it.....women with "nails" would probably curse whoever designed the fitments) there is zero wind buffeting even at motorway speeds.
Driving up in the sunshine it was about 18C and with heater off I was opening the window as it was like sitting in a greenhouse.
Had several soft tops (latest being a Golf) and none anywhere close to the performance of this one deflector in situ.
