Instructions to change oil and oil filter for Maserati 3200 GT please

I would like to start looking after my own car, and does anyone know where I can locate some instructions on changing the oil and oil filter in the 3200?

This way I can do it more often plus it helps with keeping unnecessary costs down.

However if its too difficult I have had a quote from local official Alfa dealer (who apparently done this for a few other Masser owners) they will use the recommended Selenia racing oil & labou £130 including VAT (but slightly less if I supply the original Maserati oil filter).

To buy selenia directly from them seems quite reasonable cheap: 1x 5 litre and 3x 1 litre total £70.49 incl VAT.

Had quote from Maranello to do just the oil and filter change £285 plus VAT!

I agree, yet it has done only 3.5k miles since new belts, knock sensor, brake discs etc etc costing £2276... so in reality only just simple work is required, I believe in changing oil more often as this will be a big help in protecting the engine.
My local Lakeside Engineering specialists just called and can change the oil and filter for slightly less than I expected.

Thank you for the link, but I already bought some oil from my local Alfa Romeo dealer, I bought 8 litres, was that not enough? Also received two oem maserati oil filters from eurospares. (An extra one for later...)

Is one of the inlet pipes radiator related? If so then I might as well drain the radiator fluid almost at the same time because I also bought 3 litres of blue Paraflu. Only problem I see is that I need to wait till the engine is fully cold before emptying the radiator, of course drain the oil whilst hot first. Or can I drain both while hot? Wont the heat damage the engine if there is no fluids, especially in the radiator.

I am slowly building up my service parts, I just ordered 2 new oem bosch lamnda sensors from S.E.D in Guildford as Eurospares do not have any. Fortunately most of the parts do not need replacing now but will save them when they are due.

I think 8 litres is enough for an oil change but mine uses a little bit just running around so I always like to have some extra for weekly top ups.
The inlet pipe is one of the two that goes to the throttle body so isn't radiator related and no need to drain the system, although a change of coolant is never a bad thing.
Coolant only needs to cool down enough to ensure pressure in system is reduced so you don't get showered with boiling steam when you realse the header tank cap or drain plug. By the time you come to refilling with coolant the engine should be cool enough to not cause any problem - although I leave it a couple of hours minimum once drained to make sure everything is cool enough to add cold new coolant mix.

make sure you get the proper oil filter some filters are the right fitting but too large to get into place. oil change is not too hard,, i have done it several times.

Don't forget that you'll need the big sump washer. I use Shell Helix so disagree that Selenia is essential, however do not put anything other than 10W60 in there...

As long as 10W60 and either Shell Helix or Selenia they will be fine.

In my experience the usage of Shell Helix 10W60 resulted in less oil consumption compared to the selenia. With the Selenia I had 1 L every 1000km, with the Shell only 1 l in 3000km, also the Shell has a newer formulation.

I drained also the oil cooler by opening the conectors which are accessible quite easy after the oil filter was removed, but the amount of oil comming out there wasnt that much even waiting 1h. When refitting the connectors one should care that there is enough space to fit a oil filter removal tool on the oil filter which is a bit tricky when the are not oriented horizontally.
Covering the Iron bar and V-belt underneath the oil filter before unscrewing it is a good idea to avoid the oil pouring on to the poly-V belt of the alternator/aircon compressor.
I removed the complete intake hoses (so right, center and left hose, but in one piece, so its 3 clips to unscrew) from the intake manifold, as extracting the oil filter through the right side of the intake (seen from the front) I experienced to be easier compared to extract the oil filter from the engine bay on the side where its mounted. As doing this cross movement allows to extract the oil filter from the engine bay without pouring the oil which resides inside the oil filter.

I spoke to Autoffcina recently and one of their mechanics advised that if the wrong oil was use (anything but Selenia) then the engine would lunch in a few hours! LOL :D

Selenia spec was a lot better when launched, not so now. ( Yes I have it in mine at the moment, but I also have used Shell, depends on who's doing the service.) I would say modern high spec oils will be far superior to Selenia.

And the right kind of oil will be a special batch of selenia mixed with unicorn milk only available at their counter :)
