Intermittent Rad Fans

Just in the last 2 days when my engine temps are mid way, the fans go into turbo mode, normally when idling at lights etc. This goes on and off and the temps never rise above mid way. I am getting no dash warnings although I did check the engine oil today and it seems to be a little on the low side, but again no warning lights to indicate a top up of either engine oil or coolant. I should add there are no leaks whatsoever and fans are loud only when temps are mid way.

Taking no chances I've booked a main stealer to look at it but I suspect it could be a resister or possibly something simple like engine oil?

Whats your thoughts?

Without it, or when its faulty the fans run at full speed when switched on. With it the fans have steeped speeds to keep the engine at normal temp... a bot like a dimmer switch.

Thanks, i thought as much.

My feeling is that the resister has gone and I suspect it costs about £60, any idea on the labour involved?

Hoping the part is included under warranty too.

Emblem spotted my resistor had gone when I took it in for their Saturday clinic. £60 if I recall. Cheapest visit to them! Big service coming up next Saturday. Suspect it will be a little more!

what does the resistor look like. Being an electronic engineer, £60 is a bit steep for even a handmade wire wound item.

They corrode over time due to damp etc, so I think a wear and tear item as it is not a sudden failed item.
