Job you wished you never started.
Trying to eliminate the knock/rumble on my front offside on the Pinin, which is annoying me, thought I would change the anti-roll bar droplink, even though it appeared okay, they aren't expensive.
How hard can it be? just a couple of M10 nuts....just a job for a lunchtime break.
Rusted solid, and the hexagon key slot in the end to hold the stud from rotating appeared to be a odd size that I didn't have, or rusted out. Anyway the bottom nut you can't easily get a spanner on the nut anyway being recessed, and holding a hex key at the same time!
Had to angle grind one end off, and hacksaw off the other, assembling the hack saw around the front drive shaft and steering arm, with no room for error with drive shaft boots and brake lines very close.
Youngest came home from school, saw the car up on a jack, wheel off, the drive covered in tools, socket sets, spanners, angle grinder, impact wrench, large hammer (very important) it did look rather serious, and simply said "you are a bit of a car mechanic aren't you daddy" and continued walking off into the house!
Did it, a job that should have been 30 minutes took me over 2 hours, an extended lunchbreak.

Did it make any difference? Not one little bit.

More joys of the good old British Winter weather making simple jobs hard work.
Oct Accetalyne can be your Best friend at times.
You don't have any play on the inner rack end Mike ?

They checked everything at the MOT, and couldn't find anything, apart from a new track rod end and wheel bearing adjust at the other nearside. There is zero play in the steering.
It's probably the strut, but hate to change both sides and it being a 10 quid drop link, hence why I decided to change.
Fortunately parts are cheap, new strut 50 quid each.

If it’s any consolation I paid £100 for a new boot handle, spent 45 mins changing it on the weekend (I wasn’t rushing) and my boot handle.........

Still doesn’t work

Today I had a look a Mercedes Benz diesel that 3 other people had looked at 2008 115 CDI done a 195,000 miles overfueling like Robert Kempshell at the bar.
Air Intake sensor totally Carboned up and what a job to get to.
Nearly had to get the PAS and AC pumps off but got in there in the end.
Now having a couple of Leffe blonde.

Diesels made by anyone other than Cummins or Caterpillar are a bit of a dark art to me.

Mine’s a little rich at idle, where’s that in the intake system Phil? Before or after turbos, intercooler etc?

Looks delicious Phil!

Good spot, a €20 part that stumps many!

In the hard plastic pipe from the intercooler up to the inlet manifold. Everything is black and in a tight spot as the engine mount there too.

Put a scanner on the car and get some live data see what temperature your getting.
Mine was minus 40°C.

Thanks, will do. It was your post that reminded me it’s a little off at idle. No smoke under acceleration though.
