I said I was tempted. It may have to wait a bit longer before I take the plunge. Nothing would be cooler than to turn up at the next Maserati meet with that but sadly its going to have to be the Gransport for now. That or the Granturismo S coupe is definately my ultimate goal

Can't decide when to upgrade myself. My 4200GT is worth next to nothing (05 05 facelift, manual box, 38k miles, £15/17k trade?) so I will need to see 4.2 GTs sub £45k really to get in for under £30k to change. I guess that will be spring next year so I will be buying a three (+) year old 4.2GT and selling a six year old 4200GT but £30k is a large amount to spend to go from a six year old to a three year old car. Will have to lump it though as the GT seems to show no signs of depreciating like the 4200GT did.

You must be looking over 20k for a private sale....that is very low for a face lifted car..

Big Bob if the 4200 is running well stick with it. I don't think you will feel you have achieved that much spending your money on a standard 4200 Granturismo. Your car will not depreciate much more over thext couple of years and maybe by then the GTS prices will have softened. Alternatively, if you feel your car is ageing why not a 2007/2008 Gransport to tie you over?????

Fair point Urbanmaser. I'm looking outside at it at the moment and my 4200GT looks great especially as I love Rosso Mondiale. I am only doing 8k pa in it as its my fun car. We very rarely use it for the whole family but its space allows me to take both nippers to school on the way into work whereas something like a 911 could not do that. The size of the GT puts me off a bit plus the lower power to weight of the 4.2 GT and the move to a slushbox. Whilst I respect the GS, my 4200GT does all I need really.

For Andy, not sure what my car is worth privately but its probably a £23k retail car so £19/20k privately?

Incidently guys, price to change at the moment has to be £35-40k. Gets less the longer I wait as the 4200GT depreciation curve is flattening out though!

Big Bob better the devil you know. The 4200 in red is fantastic. You have the car sorted now and I cannot imagine it would depreciate more than say 3 or 4 thousand in the next couple of years. As good 4200's become scarcer, which they will, prices may even harden for a good 4200. The other point is that the 4200 is a more aggressive performance car than the bog standard Granturismo........too much weight for that 4200 engine.........even the S would struggle to keep pace with a 4200 or Gransport

Can't argue with any of that. Maserati have not replaced the 4200GT/GS with like and that's part of the issue for me. The GT is too large and too fat. I can't understand that Audi can produce a four seater V8 powered coupe in the form of the S5 which is big enough inside and has good road presence but is a good 250mm shorter than the GT and 200-250kg lighter depending on gearbox type despite the 100kg that four wheel drive adds. Plus the option of a manual box too. I am unlikely to buy an S5 largely as my wife already has two Audis so I like something different but it has to be able to take two kids and few interesting coupes' do.

The result is obvious as you say urbanmaser, keep what I have. Even if I keep it another two years to seven years old, it will have just over 50k on the clock and still have a reasonable value, certainly from the low bids I will get to sell it now. Mind you it will need a clutch and brakes in that time....
