We're off to the Lakes late August. It's likely to be busy so may be prudent to book a few places for lunches or dinners. Please let me have your recommendations for pubs, restaurants, cafes etc. We're staying in Gosforth but don't mind any distance for somewhere worthwhile.

Thanks in advance.

Not an area of Cumbria I know as I tend to stay away from Sellafield.

However you could do a couple of the passes over into the National Park and get to some fine places;
Cartmel has two michelin star restaurants, E'clume and also Rogan and Co
Dog and Gun in the North towards the M6 at Skelton
Drunken Duck near Hawkshead
Punch Bowl Crosthwaite South of Bowness
Lucy's on a plate in Ambleside for a more relaxed experience

Dozens of good hotel restaurants there too... and far too many to list.

First, the Pie Shop in Gosforth is not to be missed...
Punchbowl at Crosthwaite is nice.
L'Enclume at Cartmel.
The Samling near Windermere.
Linthwaite House Hotel near Windermere.
Masons Arms at Strawberry Bank (some good roads).
Kirkstile Inn Loweswater.
Lyzzick Hall Hotel near Keswick.
Armathwaite Hall Hotel, Bassenthwaite.
Nicholas End Marine, Portinscale, for the view and superb breakfasts and homemade scones etc (not posh, but I like it).

Try that for a start.

If you want more suggestions, just say.

For a day out, the Ravenglass to Eskdale railway (the Ratty) is great fun, close to Gosforth and there are good pubs.

Muncaster Castle is also close to Gosforth and a good day out.

The Old Stamphouse in Ambleside. Michelin starred and best restaurant according to Trip Adviser. Just been on Look Northwest tonight
