I do love a V12 Vantage! The proportions are perfect, and the noise ain't bad either.

When I met my mate for a drive last summer (he has one) he said my old 2011 Mas GT-S was the only car he'd ever heard that he preferred the sound over his.View attachment 71116View attachment 71118

Before I chopped my old GTS in for the Vantage, one concern was that the sound would be a disappointment. To avoid that issue, I immediately had the secondary de-cats on the Vantage removed. Whilst the Vantage doesn't have that wonderful sound-of-distant-gunfire popping and banging on over-run that the GTS did so well, I still absolutely love the sound of the Vantage.

I love the sound of the V12V , much 'racier' than the GTS. IMO probably the two nicest sounding cars ever.

I love the Maserat V8 in the GT S and Stradale...Sounds epic...I remember hearing Matts black GT S in sport mode starting up at the petrol station in Chepstow and it was Almost sexual....Always gives a tingle down the old spine.....but the Aston V12 is the one for me that trumps it......In the Vanquish, Vanquish S, Vantage V12 S its sublime and in the GT12 epic.....But then it should be for the money.

I'm not sure the GT12 exhaust is much different to se-catted standard one, Andy. I know it routes out centrally at the rear, but I think the plumbing is materially similar.

Totally agree. Can’t decide what sounds better, my V12 Vanquish or GC 4.7. Both distinctive and different but equally wonderful. I’m getting an x pipe on the GC after I do a track day in it tomorrow and need to pass the static and drive by sound checks, so no x pipe until after that and may have to resist pushing the sport button too!

I heard the green GT12 start up at Dick Lovett and it sounded loud and like nothing else I have heard. But then not heard yours in the flesh.

Always remember having a very spirited drive back to Bristol from the forum trackday with Matt on the M4 motorway many years ago with my Classico and his GTS :)

Both Gen 1 and Gen 2 Vanquish are fine cars and the latter is now fine value with parity with Gen 1 despite being much newer and more sophisticated. Ceramic brakes are the only major issue as £12k to replace discs. Gen 1 is appreciating and seems more sought after, as last of the handbuilt NP Cars before the Gaydon VH gen.

This is my prototype and ex press demo Gen1 S. Photo is taken from a Vantage mag feature on it by Andrew Frankel who drove it for Autocar when new. Looks like I’m doing 100mph but just 20 or so..... and they say the camera never lies! View attachment 71110

Guy I know has a Gen 1 and sent it to AM Works to get it converted to three pedals. Is this quite common to do?

Not really. They want £20k to do it and the manual shifter is awkwardly placed too close to the dashboard. The gearbox remains the same and just the hydraulic assistance and paddles are removed.

like Ferrari’s of the period, the hydraulic manual is basic and jerky, but slight lifting on upshifts and magnetic gear position sensors on post 2004 cars that can be retrofitted to all make it fine for most situations other than town driving in nose to tail traffic, as the clutch does not fully disengage until 1500 RPM so stop and starts burns clutches.

Most are collectors cars now doing little mileage, so the hydraulic gear change is original and most stick with that.

My old mate Colin, Mungo Gerry keyboards player in the 70's..
I remembering him saying he bought a brand new Aston V8 from the factory.. on the way down the M1 with a couple of babes in the back as you did in those days;) it hardly ran on 4 cylinders, it was shite..

He sold it a week later and bought a Lamborghini!

Mate, it was a 400 GT!

And at 23 years old! the amount of cash they've made over the years for " In the summertime" you wouldn't believe...

I have an associate in Weston super Mare who owns two of those and a brand new factory motor in his living room.
They never come out as he's a bit of an eccentric.

Aston are the one brand, considering that I need 4 seats and can’t afford a Aventador, that I feel calling me sometimes.

I think they make beautiful cars. GT ain’t going anywhere yet, BUT, when she eventually does I think it’ll be Aston that get a look in
