Manual Handbrake

I have a manual handbrake on my 07 QP, i'm having issues in that it does not seem to function fully i.e. does not hold the car on a hill.

I replaced the shoes thinking this might be the problem and adjusted correctly but still have the same problem, could it be the handbrake cable being rusted in and not allowing full operation properly ?

Fine short term but it will fail it's next MOT. I've never had a Maserati with anything over than an ok(ish) handbrake and that includes the epb on my current one.

Yes, that's true. It's a PITA. No idea how effective the EPB on the GT is as I don't use it. I should probably check as the MOT is due in October.

I only use my epb intra-day as I don't risk it if I am parking for longer.

Mine was about to fail it's last MOT until they realised one of the epb modules had lost it's connection in the boot (does that make sense?).

So is the consensus that if you have the EPB, it's a good idea to keep it exercised as a matter of course, or is there a reliability risk of it failing anyway?

Re EPB. Speaking from experience, they seem to seize on if you use them when wet so the consensus is to press "Park off" - you need to press the button for a few seconds - before you switch off. Leaving it in Park is fine (on the flat anyway).

Thanks very much - I'll bear that in mind from now on.

I've never had an issue with the EPB on my 2008 QP GTS, even when used in the wet, or cold weather, or left parked for a couple of weeks. Maybe it's different on the GranTurismo and maybe I should plan to get into the habit of using the "Park Off" button for that car. I don't recall having any issues with the manual handbrakes on my other QP DS cars either, and while it's very rare for me to have to park on a slope, they all still had to pass their annual MOT's.

Parking them wet for a long time and using the epb is what you need to avoid IMHO.

Other than that it copes badly with hills. IIRC my old A8 used the rear brake pads rather than specific epb shoes and it was better for it.

I have a manual handbrake not the epb. I expect it will fail an MOT so was wondering if the cable was the right place to look.
