Maserati extended warranty and main dealer purchase - any concerns?

Hi Folks,

We are buying a 2009 car from a main dealer and we have been told that the car has a Maserati warranty (owner kept up the warranty after the 3year manufacturer warranty expired).

The car is a 4.2 one owner with 15,000 miles.

So my question is - any concerns regarding the extended cover and what is covered/not covered?

Also the car is from a main dealer so I presume no need to be paranoid and go for an independent inspection?

I have asked for a breakdown on what has been replaced during service and any other works carried out on the car but the dealer has not provided this yet. Was told that they can't run off a service history print out due to data protection (car serviced at same dealer since new).

I have seen the service book and extended warranty book/certificate so that checks out fine.

Any advice would be appreciated!

I bought my 2008 GT from a main dealer and they showed me the inspection sheet that was completed when they took the car in. That showed a few things that needed doing so got new rear tyres, new rear brake pads and a new badge out of it. They also chucked in a 12 month warranty (albeit not the Maserati one).

Good luck and enjoy the car!

The owner can extend the 3 year warranty up to 5 years which gives same cover. Thereafter it can be extended for another 2 years but on much reduced cover. Maserati used sales can offer a 1 or 2 year warranty which I believe is very comprehensive but there is an age limit for inception of this which I think might be 5 years. Hence you see many cars at main dealers with non-Maserati warranties being offered.

Think there are a lot of checks in order to maintain the factory warranty so you should have good peace of mind but never any harm in an independent inspection if you are worried (remember there are wear and tear items that will not necessarily be pointed out by the dealer). Also think the factory warranty is comprehensive if something significant goes wrong after you buy so should be safe.
