MC Shift F1 gear box issue, limp mode

Hi

I recently bought a Granturismo S F1 and have a gear box issue

I had a check transmission go to dealer error code come up, the car went into limp mode and wouldn't let me go past 2nd gear. I was 20 miles from home, i stopped a few times on the way to try turning it off and on again and when i got back it had corrected itself. About a week later it happened again and I was 50 miles away, i don't know why but i tried driving it in manual and put it into neutral while i was moving and selected a higher gear, it immediately went into 5th after experimenting with this method I was able to drive it home, learning to gestimate which gear it would select by my speed.

I took it back to the garage to check and as he was shifting through the gears on his diagnostic, his machine clashed with the cars computer and everything died, engine, gearbox. he told me that his software must be out of date, this was the day before lockdown in March  he finally got round to fixing the car last week and i was delighted to have it back!

Since then I noticed that the MC sport mode is no longer showing in my options when pressing the sport button and to top it all off the check transmission go to dealer has re appeared today.

Has anyone experienced similar problems? also can anyone recommend an independent in the Northwest who is trustworthy and wont fleece me?

Any help greatly appreciated as i don't want to go back to the guy i bought her off

thanks

James

Looking at the mileage on the car, the first thought that comes to mind is whether your clutch has done its time. Is the car still on its original clutch?
If so it could be that you need a new clutch. The symptoms point to it.

That's worrying.

Have you spoken with Marios at Autoshield, Manchester?

Hi Rivarma thanks for coming back to me

I'm not sure i don't have the history as the car was a ****** back by the finance company. The mechanic said the clutch was good and it changes gear no problem when i double clutch it with neutral between gears

When that happened to me it was the clutch position sensor. Didn't do limp mode though would just randomly display the message about and not start.

I would 2nd this...give Marios a call at Autoshield.

I’ve not had this exact issue but Marios will be best placed to advise and get a look over it

Keep us posted on progress and hope you get it sorted soon!

Yep, another recommendation for Marios at autoshield from me, if your in that area.

You should tell your dealer anyway that the problem has returned so quick, and that obviously the fault wasn't fixed.

When did you purchase the car?
Did you first take it back within 3 months of purchase?
There is obviously a problem that he needs to sort, but it needs a specialist to carry out the work. Marios will be best to advise.

Not aware of any limp mode for the gearbox, normally it is just revs restrictions.

A garage would always say a clutch is fine, it will be until it slips/collapses.

Sadly if it does need a new one it will be a couple of grand. Mine went at 40% worn due to tang failure.

only lets me use 1st to 2nd gear in auto then just goes up in revs, but if i put it in manual i can get it moving and pull neutral then upshift the paddle and it gives me a higher gear. so the gearbox and clutch are working

I knew these cars were awkward but this is weird!

So i had to go to the supermarket and used the car with the manual neutral trick, when i came out and started it up all was good again no faults! what the ****? could it be the infamous battery?

Well I can vouch the electronics do get serious confused with certain parameters and flash up the fearsome lights.

For me, once when I foolishly believed someone on ML who said the was a hidden launch control on the F1 box you could access by starting and pulling both paddles forward for 30 secs. Tried it, for the same lights as you. Restarted. Gone

And once in Leeds when I was particularly keen to get to the German Market for a käsewurst and overshot the car park entrance at the Merrion centre, stopped in panic (loads of traffic), tried to reverse and lights again. Later after a good cheese sausage all fine.

Like I say, quick movements or unhandled exceptions on the paddle inputs confuse it and it goes 'Take me to you dealer'....

As others have said, it would be good to get it checked out.

The only time I have heard of a car which wouldn’t display MC Shift mode was when there was an issue with the alignment of the gearbox actuator, but that didn’t result in limp mode. There is definitely something a bit interesting going on....

I had exactly the same issue at 53,000 kilometres.

It needed a new clutch so it won't let you shift past 2nd. Had exactly the same warning light as well Frustratingly I had only just bought the car and I was 100ks away from home so I put it on a tow truck. I wish I knew about the option to put it into neutral so it would find a higher gear but without this knowledge I didn't want to risk an expensive gearbox repair.
