Mc20 Driven

I'm liking the MC20 a lot, more and more as I see it on different videos etc. I also like the Ferrari Roma. I can see one of these in my future.

I was reading the Evo and Car Magazine reviews on the Roma. They both love it.
I could see myself more in a Roma than a MC20.
Can’t afford either so probably a moot point! :p

I really like it too.

Also, sounds better than the previous videos.

Biggest problem for me is the closeness to the Huracán pricing. The mc20 should be 40k usd cheaper IMHO. 200k USD. Please?

Why do you see a premium Maserati being less valuable than a bling Audi?
no idea of UK pricing, I guess you are talking about the R8? what do they cost? What does the huracan cost? I'd put the mc20 in the middle of the two.

I (maybe making this up) was lead to believe that US pricing of the MC20 was to be around 200K US$ base.

Interesting, I think your comment on the MC20 being priced between the two is the problem that Maserati will have to overcome if they are to sell any meaningful volumes of the MC20.

The Lambo is £180k list
The Audi is £145k list
The MC20 is £187k list

Obviously you can skew these massively if you to tick box crazy with the options lists.

I think the tech of the MC20 with it's carbon tub, new and modern engine technology etc makes it worth at least as much as the Lambo which is still running essentially the same engine as it has been for 15 years now. Sure, they tweak it now and then, add a spoiler and some stripes etc but it's not a modern car by any means now. And the Audi is at end of life as well. It's clear the Audi offer the best value but it's not got the badge at that level.

I guess what I'm saying is that the MC20 is a ground up new design, with lots of modern tech, where the others are now getting on a bit.

I'm sure that Lambo will outsell Maserati almost no matter what they produced but I'm not sure they should be!

Still 4 cylinders down on the Lamborghini and more expensive.

Worth having a good think about that.

I don't think that matters as much in the modern world. They're forced to use technologies that fit the modern rhetoric, can transfer to electrification and meet emmissions standards etc etc. Otherwise there would be a V8 in there. Cars like the Ford GT have taken the same route, it's just what's happening. V6 or v8 with turbos and a bit of hybrid somewhere such as brake recovery systems or whatever.

If I was building it, I'd have started with a v12 and built the car next. :)

Only a V12? Let’s not sell the idea short.

None of it really matters, it’s another spin on the low sales volume, maximum PR halo car to create interest in the brand ahead of another range of average to good (ish) SUVs/saloons/coupes a la 8c and look how successful that was.

Yes but thats the point of the halo car isn’t it? At least they have one now to make us interested in their saloons.

It’s great that it exists but it’s actual relevance is thin. The new V6 is interesting to see how it trickles down the range but given how soon ICEs die I wonder if they should have gone balls out old fashioned like Lambo.

That doesn't make sense when you consider best use of the development cash. The need to be up to date, with a platform suitable for EV applications, roofless etc. And so that's what they've done. Much as it pains me, big time displacement is out of date. It would be cool, however, to see them shoehorn a 650bhp twin turbo v8 into a new Stradale, still based on the Granturismo shape. just for the **** of it.

I'm not buying it so my view does not really matter. I'm particularly keen to see the new GranTurismo. Mine is now ten years old and a change would be good but I suspect they will price it alongside the DB11 and I'm not paying £150-180k. When i got my car they were about £88k list which is c£110k now which is about right. I don't disagree with the MC pricing in this context and, anyway, it is such a small volume car that high (ish) pricing actually helps.

PS There is a guy on PH who has put £44k of carbon on his!

Said it before and I’ll say it again it’s a bloody good look car this.

Please please let the GT replacement keep the DNA, the dipping nose and flared rear arches etc.
2022 in the showroom for the GT I’m reading?
