I had two X-Types and really loved them. Both the 3.0 petrol AWD so not particularly economical, but comfortable, quiet, quick and compact.

I'm guessing that was when they were young enough not to be snapping in half due to rotting sills, those plastic covers have a lot to answer for

Nothing wrong with an old XJ.
I rate my 77 XJC 4.2 as one of the best cars I have ever had ever.
Looks, style and performance.
Fuel consumption not brilliant but never one of my concerns.
