My new Ghibli

Well, my new ex demo Ghibli ;)
After just over 5 years and 108k miles I moved my trusted Ghibli on, and replaced it with a Mar 2019 Gransport Ghibli, with virtually every optional extra on it.

First impressions are its brilliant. I love the way it looks (its red, Rosso Energia I think its called, though not sure). Its a peculiar red in that it looks very different in different light (pics to follow later).
Being a Gransport it has a lot of kit as standard (so LED matrix lights, painted calipers, paddle shifters, Skyhook). It also has 21" Titanios, carbon interior and exterior trim, full driver assistance package, foot waving boot, alcantara headlining, red stitched black leather).. I think thats about it!

Inside, its a special place to be. The new larger infotainment is excellent (GPS problem aside!). Ride is improved, I was a bit wary of the 21"s but the Skyhook more than compensates. In normal mode it rides the bumps extremely well, not a crashy ride at all, though it does feel a little under dampered at times. In "hard" mode it feels very firm (though havent explored this much yet)
Engine wise it is identical, other than this one has the adblue and it appears to be a little less economic (or the trip computer is more accurate, will know when I fill it up)

Outside, the 21" painted dark, along with the carbon trim (mirrors, handles, B pillars, front splitter and rear boot spoiler) really make the thing look sporty (its much more sporty looking than my previous one, which was more elegant than sporty). Not that keen on the front badge, which is 2D in order to fit the radar behind it. The new LED light cluster looks sharp

Overall very happy indeed with it (will post pics later)

I must also mention my experience with selling the old one. I contacted Richard Grace last wednesday morning, asking if he would be interested, he was very responsive and we quickly agreed a price. He collected it 2 days later, at the price we agreed (no attempt to lower the price on inspection etc).. He was very professional and amenable throughout the process and I would recommend him to anyone, either sourcing or just buying your car (as was the case with me). It made selling the car (which I am not keen on) very easy.

Thanks for the mention Paul and your new one looks like a lovely example. Thanks for being straight and honest about your car too. It had been cherished and impeccably maintained, drove like a car with 20k on the clock, not 108k!

Nice. Rare to find a Ghibli with Skyhook.
The pricing and spec now (from what I can make out), are the stanadard Ghibli its a £2200 option, but with the GranLusso and Gransport the Skyhook is standard.

Looks great. The Titanios do transform the look of the car - put them on my last Ghibli.

Enjoy!

Sounds like a great spec and always good to see another owner who can appreciate the benefit s of Diesel! The red was my first choice when ordering my car, but vetoed by the wife! It's certainly a rare colour choice given that it cost several thousand more as an option from memory. The Skyhook suspension whilst also expensive, does do a great job at sorting out the ride. I just leave it in normal mode, and whilst I'm a pretty slow driver, it offers a great mix of good ride and flat cornering.
Like your car, I ticked virtually every option box, and I am well aware when I do eventually sell I will lose a substantial amount of the cost of all the extras, but the way in particular the cabin is transformed from executive to absolute luxury car makes it 100% worth it.
Earlier this year I had the opportunity to try for a week or so a latest version Ghibli, both petrol and diesel. The fuel economy on the petrol was a bit scary, but the new infotainment seemed pretty good with plenty more voice activation commands. Although I couldn't find a way of switching off the audio, in that every time I went to restart the car the radio would come back on...
Finally, whilst some will think it a gimmick, the electric boot opener with gesture control has proved surprisingly useful, and now I wouldn't want to be without it, and the adblue tank in my car still shows over a quarter full after nearly five years.
Wish you plenty of years of happy driving...

It's a very strange red colour. Looks very different in different light.
Front wise there arent many differences from the last one

Loving it so far. I'm getting more used to the ride now, and its really good. Thought it was a bit floaty at first but it makes for a smooth ride on long journeys. Even on sport suspension mode its not that hard.

One thing I have noticed though, whether it is because it is still bedding in (though at 12k I wouldnt have thought so), the economy of it is down about 10% on the old one. On that I was getting around 40 on a mix of driving, this one is around 35-36, though it must be said that tank didnt have any long ish journeys... so we will see. Thats Euro VI for you! ;)

Was the first pre-Adblue? I found that fuel economy suffers post Adblue on a couple of cars. Ironic.....

We found out recently that the CO2/km on later Ghiblis, like yours @P R are higher than early cars. I think part of the reason is they’re not cheating as much as they were. 2016 cars were 158, late cars are 191. This must have some effect on the fuel consumption too.

Talk of mpg on a Maserati forum? No wonder the brand is in trouble!

Lovely looking car though, which is really what matters.

Yes, the first was one of the early ones, Euro V and no adblue

That sounds about right. They can run the engine hotter, makes it more efficient but produces more NOx's

Im not a big fan on all these driver aids. The radar cruise is flawed, on a normal single carriage road, if a car turns off infront of you the radar still picks it up and slams on the anchors which is a bit disconcerting. On a motorway you have to pull out well before you would normally to overtake anything (and thats with it set to minimum distance). I used to use the cruise on the old one a fair bit, wont be using this one as much! Its a shame. The GF has just got a Jeep Renegade (its brilliant), and that has radar cruise AND normal cruise. (the centre screen and inbetween dial screen is basically the same as the system in the Maser by the way)..
The lane control thing I turned off
The parking assists, with the camera "above" the car is very good

We had a 2016 Grand Cherokee and the radar cruise on that was excellent so I can vouch for the Jeep version when coupled to the other mitigation features like lane control and autonomous braking, it just works and had 47k miles in it and never had any issue of unexpected braking etc. I am surprised it is not the same parts bin on the Ghibli for that device though, it is a fairly generic unit. In comparison the radar cruise on my wife's 2018 Merc c class coupe is appalling, somehow the Germans have managed to engineer in that it is both laggy to detect lane intrusion and then massively over sensitive when it's cataracts clear so loves slamming on the brakes and flashing warnings at you + scaring the shite out of any car behind you. It also has big issues with pot holes and grids, beeps like a med thing at you. I think it is too sensitive to the low ride and very stiff suspension setup, any surface imperfection causes it to get confused on anything but a glass flat surface. It has had 2 services where I have specifically raised concerns and asked the question "is this radar cruise control faulty" and both times go the written answer on the job card that, it functions normally without fault under test. This feature now not used and with some luck it will be the Last Merc she buys.

Also had a Jeep on rent and drove from Bristol to London without touching the peddles after initial set up on the M4.

agree the distance parameters is too generous and encourages people to push in and force the car to slow too ofter.

Volvo was the same as was KIA... but suspect its all the same kit from China.
