NavTrak / Boot Release

Hi Guys, new to this. Just bought a 2007 Gran Turismo.

I found this forum useful (through Google) so thought I'd share this just in case it helps anybody else.

Bought the car...Activated the Navtrak, that was pre-installed. Next morning the car's battery was flat...had to be the Navtrak! All the electrics were down. Couldn't manually open the boot (to access the battery) because the manual cable pull wouldn't work..... this is a common problem according to the Maserati engineers.

So, had to have it recovered to a Maserati main dealer.

What they did to get it running, was open the bonnet, unscrew the covers, and attach a jump starter box to the positive terminal (they also earthed it to a metal part of the chassis)... This got the electrics going and allowed the boot to be opened. They then attached the jump starter box to the battery terminals in the boot and got the car started.

I'll know this for next time!! Was simple when you know how! Hope it helps someone.

As an aside, it WAS the Navtrak that had drained the car's battery and Navtrak had to replace the entire unit at a cost to me of £320. Hope everything is OK now! Fingers crossed

Hi pingusback,
Welcome to the forum, I cant see why the navtrak should be a cost to you if it was fitted to car at point of sale - it should be fit for purpose etc and no detriment to the vehicle. I have assumed dealer purchase - not sure how that would work with private.

Welcome pingusback!

The trackers are well know to this forum. I'm very surprised the charged you though. In all other cases it has been remedied FOC!

Useful info, thanks, and welcome to the forum. Where under the bonnet is the positive terminal?

Looking at the engine directly, head on....Its at the top right corner underneath a plastic cover. The covers held down by torx screws so you'll need to keep handy a torx t20/25 screwdriver, I've just ordered one off Ebay...Once you undo the screws, lift the cover to reveal another plastic lid. Lift that lid & then you'll easily see the positive terminal. :)

The other thing I'd mention...is that I'd read on a forum that, attaching a jump box to the positive terminal under the bonnet might effect the cars electronics. I put this point to the Maserati engineer (who seemed to know what he was doing)...& his rather cryptic answer was..."well, yes and no" I didn't have chance to question him further....but, he didn't have any doubts about doing it! and it doesn't seem to have caused any harm...you might just want to near that in mind though.

Welcome - I've got a 2008 GT and I love it.

Mine's got the NavTrak on it as well but there was no benefit to my insurance and they wanted £270 a year for the contract so I've not done anything with it. I've never had a problem with the battery getting flattened but I do tend to keep mine on a trickle charger.

That's about the first thing you should invest in post purchase - CTEK 5.0 seems to be the accepted choice and does the job for me.

Maybe if you try to start the car from that terminal it might fry some electrics due to the high current but it's okay for operating the boot lid.

My insurance quote actually went up when I included a Navtrak.

To be honest I'd already bought a trickle charger off Amazon for a fiver. Everybody, incl Maserati seems to say that I will need one. I'm thinking now that I shouldn't be so tight and get a half decent one like that CTEK! :)...

One thing I'm not sure of....I bought car privately & I didn't get an alarm code card, key card nor a radio card. If I reconnect the battery after using a trickle charger, will I have to enter a radio code?

HI Mate and welcome
Certainly on a 2007QP you need all of the codes after a battery disconnection / re connection
I know from personal experience!
So what I do now is leave the battery in position (in the boot) and connect the charger up in situ to the clamps on the battery post(s)
I have charged the battery up from flat this way and do a trickle charge if I leave the car a few days and all has worked well
I bought a charger from Lidl for about £13 which was a re branded CTEK and it does the job.
good luck keep us posted
