Hi,

My 2008 (prefacelift) qp v sport gt has a knackered aircon fan. Any ideas where i can get one? Anyone changed one themselves? Giallo cars were looking for a reconditioned one for me (theyre always helpful) but no luck.

Cheers

What the blower motor/unit? If so I replaced in in the project 4200. Dashboard out job on that one!

I have a 2006 QP sport gt that I recently removed the blower fan from. It's awkward but it's possible to get at from the passenger footwell:
  1. Remove the lining under the dash. You should be able to see the blower up above a horizontal bracket. (see photo below).
  2. To get the bracket out you'll first need to get the carpet up and remove the aluminium ramp/footrest.
  3. I think there's also some wiring on the bracket that needs moving out of the way.
  4. Then remove the horizontal bracket.
  5. Next towards the front of the car you'll see the wiring connector into the blower. You need to squeeze in the plastic clips and pull it out. I found it very difficult to remove, but when I eventually got it out I could see why. The connections were all tarnished especially the largest that carries the motor current.
  6. If you look at the blower (mirror helps) you'll see 6 fixings. 3 around the the outside and 3 nearer the centre. The outside ones hold the whole blower unit in and the other 3 hold the plastic cover onto the motor itself.
  7. In principle removing just the outer fixings should be enough but you'll find there's not quite enough room to get it out. What I did was also undo the inner 3 fixings. With a bit of jiggling I was then able to remove the plastic cover first and then the motor itself. It's fiddly but doable.
I mentioned above that the connections were tarnished. It fact that turned out to be the problem. After scraping off the tarnish and using some contact cleaner the blower worked again so worth checking before you buy another.

Absolutely brilliant. Really appreciate this. Will definitely give it a go over the next few weeks at some point. Cheers Howard!
