New BMW and it's straining to get your attention

I know that BMW is not that popular a brand for many on here but I've had some great sports coupes/saloons from them over the last 25 years. It is just so sad to see them now reduced to making rubbish like this the new '2022 2 series active tourer'. No idea what that means!

If ever a brand needed to a sub brand to focus on the mundane then this is it. I recently thought about ordering an M4 when I was out shopping but the front grill and the downwards brand extension into rubbish like this put me off. BMW is a success but it is not a brand I admire anymore.

I have never really cared about brands and have no brand loyalty whatsoever - I buy what I like and it isn't that.

No doubt BMW will sell loads as they will be available on PCP for £250 a month giving the opportunity to many to say "I've got a BMW".

Hideous and probably front-wheel drive - and I am also a BMW/Alpina owner but they have seriously lost their way

BMW owner here too, I've had 6 or 7 of them over the years.

For the first time I can remember, they don't make a new car that I see as desireable. The downward spiral started with the X6 and it's just got worse and worse. The M4 is f-ugly, the others even worse. What a shame.

I'd bite your hand off for a new Alpina though as I can get over the looks for one of those!

I had a new 7 series follow me last night on the way home from work.

That front grill! :worried1: It's huge! It's so laughable, all I see is Bugs Bunny's teeth every time I see one.

Absolutely hideous!

There's nothing that couldn't be fixed by sacking the design team and starting again.

I owned a 335D xdrive for about 5 months. I bought it last december, remapped it, upgraded chassis parts and did an 11.6 at Santa Pod. 60 came round in under 4 seconds (3.6) but even though it was really fast, and even though I changed almost every suspension component possible, it still wasnt as engaging as my renault megane!!

My family have owned BMWs since the 70s with the first 5er

I said no more after a sequence of miserable 3 series company cars

However I made an exception for my Alpina BMW but they really are "something else"

You just have to pick and choose - it’s the same with Mercedes, so many models and styles and downward extension. I’ve had countless (well at least it feels like countless) BM’s and I enjoyed every single one of them. I’m not sure if the current offering (X5 excepting) would tempt me, the design direction in general is not of my liking. Great cars though.

I'm sure most of us old farts - not yet 60 but I’ve started defining myself as such ;) long for the beautiful curves we used to see, but then again we’re posting about Sophia Loren and 20 year old 3200‘s and 60’s Italian cars so apart from a certain age (generalising here, I’m sure we have plenty of young ‘uns too) we have a certain taste in things. So I’m not utterly surprised that there is some criticism here….

I think the difference with Mercedes is that their cars look purposeful and look like a progression throughout the years.
They've evolved?

BMW just look ridiculous.

I raise your 2 series with the ix. The grille is not even a grille! It's just for 'style':lol2:

Last good looking BMW for me was the e46 M3. Good looking and equally well engineered. Some times I miss mine but the QP is a nice alternative.
It's predecessors E36 and E30 weren't bad either.
And I'm on the lookout for a decent E30 once my house renovations are complete...just because I had one in the 90s when BMW ownership was cool.

Probably why I still have my M140i, the replacement went main stream 4 pot/4 door/auto only.
The i8 is in my eyes stunning, however that is no longer available either. :(
