No oil pressure today - possible oil pump failure!

Look, I havent been around these cars for that long but it does seem to be an issue that comes up. I dont think it is that serious from what I can glean from owners...
It could be many things in essence...Injectors, solenoid valve, sticking lifter, cracked manifold ( valve noise )... I supose it might be a variator- how noisy are yours? You say it runs sweet so Im assuming they are quiet and well behaved...!
Several complainants, myself included, have recorded surprising results from an oil change. Too much oil not only covers your MAF in copious amounts of hot, oily vapour ( bad !) but for me, resulted in an hydraulic tick....I changed a failed sender and oil/filter at one time and it read(s) low..I topped up after getting oil lights..The more you put, the harder it is to read a frothing oil tank and dipstick...Paranoia about low pressure lead me up the wrong alley.. After I removed 1.25 L too much oil..all was good!

Try an engine oil flush if corrosion debris is in the oilways/engine.
There is a product ( additive) designed to loosen stubborn valve gear..No experience of it myself...

You might record it, and describe the symptoms with further investigation as to the parameters and so on....
Thanks for your input, yeah the variators have been quiet since owning the car. It starts and sounds fine for a while then the ‘tick/rattle’ appears after a while.
I think you’re on to something with the oil level, it has been quiet as a mouse while it was jacked high at the front, now it’s on the level the noise has appeared, that’s the only thing that’s changed!

Turns out my initial thoughts on where the noise was coming from were off.

It’s the power steering pump! It’s rattling around on its bearing and the noise is obviously echoing up that side of the block.

I put a new aux tensioner and belt on when I rebuilt everything so this must’ve finished off the bearing in the pump, I can hear it clattering around just spinning it by hand.

Thinking back, the last thing I did before lowering the car down from the axle stands was top up the power steering fluid and spin the wheel from side to side a few times, this must’ve been what started the rattling noise

Just got to get the bloody thing out now, it looks an awkward bugger to get out now that everything else has been replaced around it!

Yeah I think I’m pleased it’s just the pump, I thought it was odd that a lifter would just randomly start clattering about.

It does appear to be a **** to exchange the pump though

Wot a bar steward...
Couple fixings is all it takes...it’s just access is awkward, and draining it down IIRC

New power steering pump fitted this week, bit of a pita for access but done in the end!

Bled the brakes this afternoon, which was the last of jobs to make it roadworthy again.

Took it out for shakedown across Dartmoor this evening, bloody fantastic! Sounding sweet , running great and other than a couple of random lights on the dash no problems to report :D

Yeah the PS pump removal is a PITA

AC pump out and that rear bolt is a pig to get on but I guess you worked that out.
