Hi chaps/esses,
Newbie here from Godalming - just bought Fangio's old GT 4.2 car! Love it a lot :)
Have been debating with my heart/man maths/sensibility for ages and decided to throw caution to the wind and just live life and get it. Very happy with my choice, and although naturally due to budget creep one ends up spending more, it's a beautiful car, just needs some new rear tyres...
Thanks for all replies when I was debating what to get - and if anyone is ever passing through Godalming we're at the top of a little hill with a wall on one side - great spot to hear it :)

Good choice of town, good choice of car and very well done on living near a wall. Somewhere deep down inside yourself when you moved there you knew that wall would be an important part of your motoring life.

Thanks chaps - Adam - we only moved here in September so I definitely had the wall in mind (took us 8 years to find a house...!)
Conaero - I'd love to come to a meet - I unfortunately have to pay for this machine by working office hours in Woking, slightly concerned the traffic would be mental going into London on the A3 at rush hour but will see what I can do!
Off driving a Ferrari 360 round Brands Hatch the week before - now I have a beautiful car to turn up in. Is a step up from my Kia Pride I had for 7 years aged 17 :)

Lozzingers, welcome! I am sure you will enjoy your Italian mistress. As for tyres, try Goodyear F1 Assymetric 2s. Have fun!

Welcome, BennyD is spot on with his tyre choice although his other choices, especially head gear, are more questionable ;)

Yep another nod for the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asym2's just got 2 fronts for £100 each plus VAT for the 19" GranSport variants from here:

www.oponeo.co.uk

www.tyreleader.co.uk are a couple of quid cheaper but they could not supply a VAT invoice so that made the difference for me.

Free delivery from both too, get in there and take advantage of the weak Euro.

Crikey - it seems like the F1's are a little bit popular! I've got the 20" wheels so will check out the above - thanks very much.
Itching to get home and see it and find an excuse to get some milk from the shops as I commute by train to work each day :)

sorry for the silly question - not at home so can't check - but are they run flats we need? Did they come off production with run flats? I know changing them now would invalidate insurance etc so wanted to check!
thanks

NOOOOO! Certainly not, they are cr4p. Just normal sidewalls from the factory. Good Lord! However, better safe than sorry.

haha! Thanks Benny - I had run flats on my BMW previously and they were actually fine (17" though) - as long as the suspension is designed for it I didn't mind.
Getting my Larini fitted tomorrow which is ridiculously exciting! Is the only mod I am doing as after testing out another GT with it on I was hooked and just had to have it. GT inside just isn't loud enough and too reserved! Hope it's sunny this weekend :)

I had 18" run-flats on my BM and they were awful; the ride was cr4p and the road-holding compromised. I fitted 'normal' Goodyear F1s and it transformed the ride and handling. Run-flats are the work of the Devil.

Lozz.... you might want to check the Bridgestones on the front are not run flats !... never occurred to me to check... and I know Bridgestone do one... There's plenty of tread on those - but when there up for the change I'd try something else ... never rated them..

Still haven't got tyres - haven't had a free Saturday to get them booked in!
Off to Brands Hatch tomorrow afternoon to drive a Ferrari 360 and Nissan GTR. Booked before knowing that I could turn up in a Maserati! Just need to manage to hide it at work to make sure no one sees it....
Still absolutely loving it :)

really pleased you're enjoying it.... you must by now have had a few "Maserati Moments" by now... do fill us in... I noticed a vauxhall driver filming mine on his phone whilst following me at the "motorway speed limit" the other day...The Black one always used to get a lot of attention..
