My father's knackered old Merc has R437UBY on it. Anyone know a Ruby that might be interested in taking the car for the plate? I'd be delighted if he'd get rid of the damned thing so I don't have to when he dies....

I'm afraid I've never really understood plates that 'kinda say something' but don't really. I friend of mine has his, his wife's and his two sons cars all with their initials, but mixed up with a few random numbers, and I don't get it.

But if you can get a number to really work, that's different, and just about tolerable. I passed this brand new £90k Range Rover on Thursday, and was quite impressed:

The plates looked like this:

72400

Not my thing either. Mrs C and I have 'matched' plates CM and RM 05 ALF for her Alfa and MAS for my Maserati (sob)

They don't say anything but make sense to us

I think there's another one in my future.....
