Went into BMW today, could not believe how sh!!!t the paint is on the cars, took some pics of how poor the paint is, especially the bonnet on the M3. Does my nut in that expensive cars are finished so poorly.

Audi isn't much better. The paint on a Focus is better. However, it does respond well to a good wet sanding and polishing.

The people normally on quality control probably came down with food poisoning and Ray Charles had to check the remaining cars.

...and everyone used to joke about French cars in the 1970s.
At least there is plenty on there to take off to get a perfect finish (just shouldn't be necessary.)
Ah now I get it! The BMW M3 is produced on the back of the huge profits at BM with the money saved on painting their cars with palette knives!

If enough potential buyers refused to buy, then they would have to do something to improve the finish............................................... simples

Hey it's not much better on a new Maser, I asked my detailer why. Apparently it's since the swap to waterbased paint, it just doesn't have the finish of the traditional chemical based paint. Wet sanding is the answer but paint thickness needs to be checked first. The waterbased stuff is also softer yet more brittle which means it scratches easier and chips more.
Proof that new developments are not always an improvement.

The GS was a water base from the factory and that was a great finish. Proves it can be done.

I don't know the technical reasons for orange peal but suspect it's due to too much paint at too high a pressure.

Totally agree Dan , ive aways been a bit of speed freak , never ever had serious problems with stone chipping in my earlier years when paints were 2 part or cellulose , in the last 5-10 years with water based eco friendly paints its more common than ever , a lot of the painters complain about it , but the legislation is forcing the industry to move further in that direction, its going to become the norm for P/heads to acclimatise to the fact that to have a stone chip free front end , you either have yo drive like Uncle Urby or build in the cost of a front end respray every couple of years

that paint is shocking for such an expensive car, I don't know what I am looking for but even I can see it is a rubbish finish, did they paint it with a fence brush!
