Our cheap Coupe GT to do list

We’ve had the 4200 for a few weeks now so I thought I’d get a ‘to do’ list written down. It’s in no way a complaints list, we knew fairly well what we were buying at this price point!
After only a few weeks it has already dropped into ‘keeper’ category, it’s fantastic!

In priority order (ish):
Service due - Engine & gearbox oil ordered from Opie. Service kit inc plugs & gearbox filter ordered from ES.
Oil pressure gauge reading FSD - new ordered from ES.
Check engine light on - waiting for an obd reader to check.
Some water coming in boot and passenger door seal.
Clear out debris from under scuttle panel.
Trouble selecting gears on occasion - Adjust cables & maybe replace some bushes?
Clutch bite is a bit high - replaced 15k miles ago so hopefully, unless it’s had a very hard 15k, it can be adjusted?
Won’t indicate right - okay as I can stick my arm out for right turns.
Bit of a whine when giving it beans in third.
Clean, treat & protect the subframes and underside.
Slight judder when braking from speed
Handbrake shoes - have adjusted level and they still don’t hold, so I’ll replace shoes.
Miss matched tyres!
Sticky buttons!
Sticky vents and chrome rings flaky.

In the meantime I’ve cleaned it!

I’m hoping to update this thread as I work through it, might not be the fastest paced thread!

Regards
Moss

All the best mate on your project, be careful though as they can suck you dry financially!

All the jobs above are doable, whilst you are cleaning out the scuttle panel, clean out the drain channel too. They get blocked and can cause corrosion,

Funny how my turn signal has the exact same issue, I’ve ordered a replacement part but still waiting on it hopefully that’s the issue.

Check the position of the key in the lock, the spring doesn't return it to the 'normal' driving poistion and all the dash lights do not work, nor does the indicators.

Have you priced up the door seals , if they need replacing best be sitting down when you do :D
Same for when I bought the Oil/Water pump unit for my Project 4200 back in 2014 for £1500 still the car was very cheap and I ran it for 4 years in New Zealand and it's still going strong there today.
They are worth saving.

Yes, shocking price. I have a receipt dated 2010 for a drivers side door seal from Graypaul Edinburgh for £549.22 plus VAT! I'm pleased to say that it was paid for by a previous owner. It may be worth looking at getting some bespoke seals made if that's possible.

I have now! Scary price, I may look at some kind of alternative!
It may just need a bit of a fettle rather than replacing, I need to give it a closer look

How did you clean those up. My front side vents need the Chrome sorting. You did a fantastic job. Any tips?
