Thanks for that. When you say ' The later one' do you mean the last one '290506' ? Whats the difference between this and the first one of '9948' ?

I had the same issue at Halfords, went for the latest one and to be honest, black is black, and for stone chips, and general touching up it was spot on.

I even lent it to the valeter to use on Dans Lambo and it was fine.

Must admit with all the cars I have had I have never had touch up paint which matched very well.

I would go for the 290506 as this covers the later year cars. Not sure what the difference, if any, there is between the two. If it is just for chip covering I would not think you would have a problem. The only way to be absolutely certain that you have a definite match, is to get some paint made up, as the colour fades and changes over the years of the car. A good bodywork shop, or paint mixer should be able to get it spot on, at a cost.

I had a proper painter do some areas on my car and he found that the off the shelf NERO CARBONIO using the PPG code is the correct shade/hue, but the metallic pigments are wrong - there are too few, resulting in the finish not picking up the sparkle evenly when the car is parked in sunlight.

He mixes the paint on site, so was able to add more sparkly bits to get it right. The PPG paint is good on other cars such as Alfas with no such issues, so it seems Maserati had some changes made to the paint which were not reflected in the paint code.

What not put your painters details on here Arnie? Paint matching is a black art and if we know someone who can do it properly then we can all benefit. BTW, I used Halfrauds to match my paint and it was awful. The pigments settled out as soon as I finished shaking them and the colour came out much darker. Looks like they are good for blacks but not much else.

I would Benny, but he is not a regular bodyshop - he is the outsource paint shop Caterham use for all their cars. His non-Caterham customer base is "friends and family" only.

For anyone in the north of England, I would suggest Emley Refinishers, next to Emley Moor Mast, they did a part respray on certain areas and you would never know from any angle. If you need the number just let me know? I have used them for years and they handle prestige motors from dealers, so they are good.

Ill second that, they did a rear quarter panel on my old PPG bianco nuvola 147 GTA (3 stage pearl) and blended it beautifully.
