Paint shield film

Any thoughts on this stuff? I've heard people swear by it; on the other hand I've been quoted £2k for full front (front bumper full bonnet, full wings, wing mirrors) which is big pot to dip into for chip repairs.

For £50 you can have a cling film solution...does the same thing. Tested by many of us at Bruntigthorpe...

I have a similar thing on the Elise.
Half front, so it covers to just above the headlights, and the middle portion in front of the front bonnet, and the front bonnet itself, mirrors and both sills.
It's been on there for 7+ years now and only has a couple of chips, hasn't faded or anything either, though some of the tighter curve edges have peels slightly. This doesn't bother me as they are basically under the car.
Some of the bits under the nose have shredded slightly too where the front has bottomed out..
It cost me around £700 at the time, but the car had just been fully resprayed.

Personally, i'd do it again on a car that has a custom paint job, or difficult to match colour, or large surface area (the Elise having clams means a front end respray is either a blend in job, or a paint half the car job).
The Elise is very low, and prone to chips all across the front.
I wouldn't bother on a car that wasn't freshly painted as any marks below the film would stand out imo, and of course the balance of paint cost to film cost has to come into it.

£2k does seem high. Dub Customs reckon on £1,500 for a front-half PPF wrap, and the job they do is excellent. I've had my bonnet, headlights and lower front bumper done, which cost about £600. The wings have some stone chips so aren't worth doing until I get them blown over.

Incidentally, I notice the company you linked provide a half-bonnet wrap, which is a complete no-no, unless you like a fairly obvious strip running across your bonnet. I'd be immediately deterred by their willingness to offer that kind of short-cut approach.

Thoughts to date are confirming my opinion.

Who are the go-to guys in the home counties area for a front end tidy up?

I use Phil at VRC in Waterloovile, bottom of the A3. He's been painting the forums Masers and Alfas for about 5 years now and he's worked out the colours and how the bumpers come off. He still hates 4200 front bumpers though :)

Which side of town? I use Dub Customs, in Basildon. They work with a nomadic smart repair guy (Danny SVR), who works miracles, and Stuart from F1 Wax who does detailing. Find them all on Instagram for examples of the kind of cars they work on and the quality of repairs, detailing and full wraps, PPF or coloured.

If you're more to the north or west of London then drop MAF a note and get the name of his paint guy, who I've heard is also bloody good.

ps - I should have added, my experience of the stuff so far is very good. Also worth noting that more out of the way stone-chips can be dealt with post-application of the PPF. Dub injected paint through the self-healing film to fill one or two on the lower bumper. You'd never know where they were.

Chesham, of Wheels In Motion fame, so North West of London. I'll drop MAF a line (if he doesn't see this first).

Give the old man a nudge. :)

Topaz is apparently excellent and not a million miles from you. I have in mind Wembley-ish, but I may have made that up. Not cheap, but well regarded.
