Parasitic drain help

Hi all. Merry Christmas!

Wondered if anyone could shed any light on my parasitic drain issue.

i have established through using an Amp clamp that after a journey my car sits locked on the driveway drawing approximately 8 amps for ten to fifteen minutes before returning to a normal drain of around 50mA.

This is ver heavy drain and is causing starting issues. I am going to go on the hunt for it measuring voltage drop across fuses but thought I’d check if anyone has any suspicions based on my symptoms?

Thanks

That drain isn’t going to cause starting issues by itself. If that’s all there is then you have a bad battery, earth, alternator on top of the drain or you’re doing very short journeys.

It’s normal for there to be a highish drain until all the systems shut down but 8 amps seems a lot to me. You can pull fuses one by one but the only sort of things I can think that pull that sort of amps that you wouldn’t immediately notice are fans and pumps.

Hi, I should probably have been more specific. Alternator and battery check out fine, battery is new.

It’s the accumulation of that 8amp drain along with short journeys that’s causing the starting issues as the battery is getting excessively depleted by the drain and isn’t getting fully charged from the short journeys.

8 amps is pretty hefty

So, the car when you switch off and lock stays live for 5-10 minutes then should drop the drain to circa 0.02 - 0.04 amp draw when it reaches dormant state.

There is a timer module that keeps courtesy lights, seats etc live plus the NIt is live during this process and totally normal.

If it is staying live, start pulling rows of fuses and monitor to find which component, if any, is staying live when shut down.

Slight thread drift but same topic - I am not sure if I am right about this, but after having had my battery die on the drive during messing with bits over two days and having her unlocked, I came to the conclusion that locking mine seems to shut down the current draw from the battery. Perhaps leaving the car unlocked for a period of time keeps modules awake.

I chose the Bosch S5 and no issues since.

I think you are correct, and that seems to be a modern car issue. Leaving them unlocked does appear to drain the battery quicker.

I am still convinced that locking with the key (rather than the fob) does not set the alarm (no bleeps) and so less drain when left for long periods. It’s what I do (most of the time).

A Quite a few people suspect the Tracker. When they get a bit older the internal battery will be less efficient, so will drain the main battery more. That's the suggested theory anyway.
Is yours an Auto or MC shift?
Disconnecting the tracker on an MC-shift isn't that straight fwd, but suspect the Auto might be more simple.
Have a read here -

I also found that I had an LED in the boot, that was remaining on - https://www.sportsmaserati.com/index.php?threads/led-bulb-in-boot-causing-battery-drain.35877/

I discovered NAV Track documentation in the collection of stuff along with the car manual etc. Wonder if it's been removed? I've never had an issue with my battery in 10 years though. fingers crossed!
