I understand your point to their cosmetics but they are on the rear of our garage so no one can see them. We don't even notice they are there. To get 75% free electric is a great benefit though that cannot be ignored.

I suspect with Tesla roof tiles and the likes of new products coming there will be better products to alleviate these cosmetics.

Solar is the future ! Micro generation is the way forward.
Why Boris sees fit to plunge all our efforts into one thing, wind, defies logic or sense IMO....

Agreed.....we could in effect become our own little power stations. Especially if you can be a net generator feeding excess back into the grid.

Our barn sips in comparison... must be the new german boiler, underfloor heating, and the extra insulation we put in the place when we converted it.
If it's well insulated then thats a massive benefit. The old place (146 years old) we live in is 3 stories high, has 2'6" thick stone walls, 9' x 4'6" wide Victorian sash windows (single glazed originals) in every room and 14' high ceilings on the ground floor. So it takes an awful lot of heat to get the old place comfortable (and keep the dampness out!). But its the AGA which drinks the fuel so we only have this on 5 months a year. Makes a huge difference to our oil consumption when on. But the Kitchen is always lovely and warm.

They’ve back tracked on the gas boiler ban that was coming in in the next couple of years. Apparently someone “mis-spoke” (had to get my millennial to English translator out for that, it means “was talking bollox”) so they’ll probably back out of this one nearer the time.

It was set at 2025 some time ago, then it appeared to have been brought forward 2 years, and now it's back to 2025.

Looking forward to how they can implement that. Especially if (hypothetically) on the 1st January 2026 a council flat on the 4th floor of a block in the middle of.... say Middleborough, the boiler breaks down and is unrepairable.
How quickly will a ground source (tricky) so air source heat pump be installed?

I'm guessing the council will have a very irate tennant on their hands if they're told it'll be 4 months before your get your heating fixed. (I'm guessing, I'm sure you'd get one in in no time) when a new boiler could be installed the next day.

It’s for new builds and both the 2023 date and the 2025 date have been removed from the latest plan only says consultation about ban in 2025.

But you can get electric combo boilers which would be allowed. I’m sure Dan is more up on the hows.

Yep, spot on. It's for the new build market only, it's not that all new gas boilers will be banned from 2025.

Hybrid Combi boilers are a very good transitional solution both for flats and small to medium size houses.
But then I would say that, as we're leading installer of Daikin Hybrid systems in the UK currently, and will be featured on the Daikin webinar today at 4:30pm :)

Also don't forget the UK is also a fairly wet country, electricity and water don't mix well. Who will maintain all these charging points, who will pay, us no doubt, what safety measures will be in place?

The Cobalt needed for the batteries is mined in the most un environmentally friendly way possible - throw in child labour who risk their lives for £1.50 a day and complete lack of health and safety - its an absolute disgrace which the Greta brigade seem to conveniently ignore - hypocrites

Obviously the report doesn’t indicate how a non-hybrid performed against its homologated figures for a comparison, which might be useful context. But why let that get in the way of a good story.

An actual comparison is that my hybrid uses 23% less fuel than my old diesel car. Which, by simple logic, means that it emits less CO2 and pollutants. But I still prefer to drive my Maser.

If this happens then surely this is going to be costly for car manufacturers as they will need to still produce engined cars for other markets. Can't see places like America going all electric any day soon. Surely manufacturers that make cars in the UK will think of moving there petrol/diesel engines car operations to the countries that buy them rather than have to ship them there.

this whole eco/green/ev/hybrid car thing is nonsense imo, reminds me of when labour were banging on about how good diesels were and promoting them, now it's a dirty word
