A guy drops his kid off at the nursery every morning in a Lambo. He’s got a green convertible and an orange coupe. I was having a nosey yesterday which got me wondering why don’t I desire one?

Why, to me, is this

So much cooler than thisView attachment 100833

Is it nostalgia, is it that they’re now more common, is it that photographers make more effort with old cars?

Personally I think they're both rather fab.

JPS colours in the first picture exude fabulous nostalgia. Plus that second photo is nauseatingly aspirational. It may as well be followed by a picture of the driver holding the steering wheel and wearing a fancy watch.

They were just photos I could find. The guy has been dropping his kid off for a couple of years, if he pulled up in Countach I’d run out. I only had a look yesterday as I was actually walking past.

Well, like you (I suspect) I grew up with pic 1.
I’ll take pic 2 anyday, in always.

Something to be said for evolution.

Yep I did. But I’m not quite sure that’s the reason. I find the previous generation Lambos more interesting than the current ones, the latest Range Rover is gash. 147GTA better than Gulia QF etc. I just wonder if I’m about to start playing golf or going to garden centres!

Close to putting you on the naughty step mentioning golf and garden centers mate.
Get playing with the Corvette :)

Well if you’re gonna take up golf I bet you ain’t gonna be using wooden shafts.
And if you do decide to take up gardening you should use those wooden shafts as “stays” for all your tall growing plants.

I think it is the speed at which new supercars get introduced. The modern supercar life cycle is very short. With the older super cars we got teased first and then it was a big thing when they were put on sale. Then we had a lot more time to lust after them. Now they’re gone before you have proper time to even notice them. To me the Lambo’s and McLarens all more or less look the same. Aston is going that way too recently. Too many and too much alike. My 0.02

You could be on to something. The guy who has the Lambos used to have a McLaren, there’s so many different models that all look the same I’ve no idea which one it was.

The new mid engined Maser and Vette interest me maybe because they’re actually quite rare here and there’s just the one.

That's a skill that has nearly disappeared.
This was a finishing touch to the Hurricane which was a bit scary. My friend Craig bolted an old Ford hub to a workbench in his shed. My job was to turn the wheel while he held the pin striping brush steady. Took him about three goes before he got the hang of it.

We used pin-striping tape to get the line defining the “sword” bit on the side. Big respect to anyone who can do this freehand.4C2B26E5-C0C2-4732-900B-5AA225AF6936.jpeg

I think the ubiquity of modern supercars has a lot to do with it, actually seeing a real live Countach in the '70s and '80s was a rare treat, something to be excited about and stored in the memory bank. My first sighting as a nipper of a Miura in 1971 and a Bora in 1972 are both etched indelibly into the old grey cells, I can remember both incidents as if they happened yesterday. I do get a buzz when I a see modern Lambo in the metal these days, but it's not quite the same somehow. That said, I still crane by neck to have a look in the window when I drive past the Lambo showroom at Fort Dunlop in Brum! In the early '80s when I lived in West London I often used to walk past a silver Dino 308GT4 parked up nonchalantly by the kerb and I always stopped for a gander - despite almost four thousand being made they were still a rare sight on the road at the time.

Did anyone ever clap eyes on a real Stratos Stradale back in the day...?
