As you requested oh Crud!

I bought one of these for my Dad as he didn’t want the rigmarole of a proper heavy oven. They certainly warm up pretty quick but it’s very hard to control the temperature as it doesn’t have a lot of thermal mass, so you open the door and it cools then you close it and the temp spikes and burns the side of your pizza. It can be managed but until you get your eye in results do vary. And the outside gets ******* hot!

One of my old team has one. He likes it but comments much the same as @Zep (who's forgotten more about pizza than I will ever know)

Awesome advertising, cook a pizza in 60 secs, without mentioning the time it takes to get the oven hot first.

In the grand scheme it takes about 15 mins to hit a temp of between 400 and 600 degrees and then varies constantly between those. My proper oven takes 6 hours so it’s not a bad compromise.

I've contemplated creating a traditional Cypriot clay oven but I don't know it is worth it at this house as they are not really portable! I wonder if you can use them duel purpose as a pizza oven?

Maybe as they can be used hot for bread etc. but my real favourite is kleftiko slow cooked 12-24 hrs!!!!

I have made a couple of clay ovens over the years, they are pretty good for pizza but they are not very durable. If you cook anything else in them you need to make sure the floor is good and clean for pizza or it will stick.

So no pineapple then?

For portable ovens the ooni or the rocboxx are both really good. I’ve had both stuck with the rocboxx in the end. I have a brick wood oven in my garden but the ooni and to box take 10 minutes to get to heat. Worth it for a portable.

I thought about one, but in Scotland! Perhaps not. I thought about one in Sicily, but can just walk down the town for one :)
