PLACE YOUR BETS .... WARRANTY OR NOT

Washed my GT on Saturday and then took her for a spin to the supermarket. On returning, I noticed that the drivers side headlight washer was siting proud from the bumper and that the passenger side was missing completely.

I can say with absolute certainty that they were there before I went to the supermarket so I am suggesting that them now being missing is a warranty claim (i.e. a fault or broken).

Bets on me getting this covered by warranty ....

Edit - April 2021. To save anyone reading further, Maserati has agreed to replace both nozzles and covers under warranty. Kudos to them.

None at all

That's my starting expectation but there is no harm in asking (especially as they are expecting me to pay over £2500 for a 4 year service to retain the warranty!).

On a more serious note, them not sitting flush (and one side being blown off) surely must be attributable to a mechanical or electrical fault and covered by warranty?

Are you sure someone didn't try and rip them off? From memory the pop out under water pressure and can blow off at speed (fishing line around the stem stops it from happening) but if it was fine when you started, did you use the washers at all?

One breaking might be a fault but two on the same short trip suggests something else has gone one.

Was it cold enough to freeze the wash fluid in the pipes ?

Other than that i would suggest they have been tampered with.

The covers come off if you're doing a certain speed with the light on and wash the windscreen (and therefore lights).

The cover is about £30 and then you have to get it painted etc.
The whole telescopic unit is about 4 million quid however!

Previously frozen?
Mine were stuck in open during the cold snap. After the warmer temps they sat back in the correct position. Better to have a more concentrated mix of washer fluid in colder periods.

Was relatively warm over the weekend so not frozen (and has no issues when it really was cold) and, as mentioned, they were fine when I washed the car.

Can't remember if I used the washers but very probably did as it has rained and there was spray and road mess (car is what I now think is filthy!).

They'd only be used if your headlamps were on as well...

An update on this.

I spoke to the dealership about a warranty claim and they seemed to indicate it would be covered .... and could be looked at when teh 4 year service was being done (now). The cover has not sat flush since Feb (and other is still missing ... obvs!) .

Just had a call to say warranty claim has been submitted and they are awaiting approval .... so fingers crossed!

Seeing you're spending £2500 maybe they'll do the washers as a courtesy (irrespective of warranty)?

+1 for that @outrun back in the 80's when they had little wipers I could see the point and liked them on the P38 Range Rovers i had.

To be fair they were around in the 70's my Dad had a BMW 733i E23 and the system on there was very clever but I reckon it works better on glass than plastics.
I hope you get it sorted.
Certainly when I worked for Maserati we did loads of warranty work to keep the customer Happy.

Agreed, I had them on a Opel Ascona 2.0 SR (DJA 350 T) in the early 80s, wash and wipers, they were great at keeping the lights clean during numerous winter trips to the land where men wear skirts. Actually the Ascona was a great car, indestructible 2.0, with genuine 100BHP and lovely handling and the gorgeous A7 from Carlisle to Gala to hone my skills.

LOL - you've not dealt with many Maserati main dealers have you! They will not even order the parts until it is an approved warranty claim.

Ok, I’ll guess your claim will be rejected.

If you told them you washed the car and they were there, they will claim you over- jet washed, loosening said items which subsequently “left“ the vehicle.

They will claim this “left”analogy is similar to Brexit and the Eu and your claim will be rejected as a lesson to others who jet wash their cars with similar enthusiasm.
