QP F1 Transmission ECU failure no start WTF

Hopefully someone can provide some insight into the unfortunate situation I find myself in. I was having F1 transmission issues on my 2006 Quattroporte and I had the actuator and accumulator replaced. I sent the car to the main dealer, I got it back, drove it a couple of times and then the transmission failure go to dealer came on and car stuck in limp mode (1st & 2nd only) They had the car for a few weeks removed the gearbox again and apparently everything was okay with the transmission but they couldn't start it. It always started fine before it went there and I even started it to drive it on the tow truck. They are now telling me I need a new transmission ecu. That's why it won't start. Apparently its "not getting an earth/start authorization signal from the transmission ecu"

My questions are;
1) how many people have had to replace their transmission ecu
2) I had an indy look at it on their scan tool and they told me the ecu information had been changed. The drawing number, software number and manufacturing date had been changed from what was previously stored before the car went back. The new manufacturing date is 09/14/2018. (my indy had scanned the vehicle previously that's why they have the data)
3) Is it possible they wiped my ecu when they were trying to fix it and are now trying to make me pay for their mistake?
4) If my ecu was wiped cant they just reinstall the software or once its wiped that's it?
5) Can I replace it with a used ecu or are they specific to the vehicle and need programming which would mean I can only buy a new one?

Many thanks in advance for anyone who can offer some input. I feel like they are trying to screw me.

Started when it went in. So really shouldn't be your concern. If they have damaged the unit, reflashed etc whilst in their care that's their issue to solve. Likely the tran s ECU isn't keyed to main ECU anymore and mismatched.

Tend to agree with Robin but it's possibly less clear cut as things do break. But no idea how the ECU can have a manufacture date of this year.

I'd press the dealer to sort since it started fine when you drove it on the flatbed. If that fails find a good indy.

Oh and check the stupid stuff. Brake light switch is a good one.

Good luck!

Oddly, and likely not relevant but to demonstrate the extent of electrical connectivity.
My Dodge 3500 ECU had part of its security built into the Media ECU. Change either and they had to be dealer 'matched' otherwise it wouldn't start.

The injectors were individually keyed into the Fuelling ECU. Change an injector and nothing would work, even change its position!

So if the Transmission ECU has been reflashed ( or even changed?) then it may no longer be 'seen' by the rest of the system.
If it isn't read by the system then both security and main ECU will assume you don't have a gearbox.

Or it may be a brake light! :)

I’m going through this at the minute moment with the GS. I was told that the start button wasn’t sending a signal, replaced the panel, worked for a while and failed again on Sunday. Checking the brake pedal sensor, I found it wasn’t even touching the pedal, so how it started in the first place I have no idea. Got a new sensor being delivered. Now not wishing to stir it, but the same sensor is used on 430 Ferrari. Only now Ferrari have replaced with a newer better version. But not on the Maserati. And I understand (but could be wrong) that even if the brake lights are working, the ECU might not be getting the ready to start signal. Maybe someone on here knows what else contributes to the decision to start apart from the gearbox, brake pedal and start button.

1. Battery
2. Clutch Position Sensor
3. Hydraulic Fault - Pressure - Internal Leakage
4. Wiring / Earth Fault
5. Canbus fault
6. TCU - Unlikely unless damaged by external influences !

So no need for additional security then as even the owners have a poor chance of starting their own cars!
