QP/GT front subframes - the truth

I have just seen some more pictures of 3 year old JLR Velar subframes. It is a disgrace, even worse than the F-Types. Not just Maserati.

I do wonder if manufacturers do this on purpose. Surely the technology exists to prevent this...

Mercedes are the same so I imagine it is the case or they stupidly do not consider salt on the roads at winter

I'd expect this from a low value car, but take a look under my Renault, not a spot of rust, everything SS.... very poor from the big names

all part of planned obsolescence. The buying customer no longer has a relationship with carmaker. The lease companies dump the residual product on used car market after 3 years.
Why would any business make their product last longer than this point?
Anyone trolling round in a new car for beer money payments has skins in this game.

There's a Japanese import 2007 QPV Sport GT currently on ebay, having owned a Japanese import Mini a few years ago which was spotless inside, outside and underneath I wonder what its subframe might be like, as their 'MOT' over there is very strict.

Only a PPI would give you that answer ;)

It's a very good point you make about *** imports. If subframes ever become too hard to get hold of....

I’m sure I’ve read (presumably on here but search…) that Mercedes at least honour a warranty and will swap them foc when dissolving on older cars

Fairly sure they don't salt roads in Japan

Yes read that too. Don't fancy testing it if I don't have to.

Your right there. Mrs 1963 has a SLK so I’m on a few groups for the model. In a lot of cases they are replacing rear subframes foc as long as the car has been reasonably maintained. They rust from the inside out so not much shows until it snaps at a joint. There’s a guy on faceach who dedicates some of his time helping people through the process.

Could someone who actually knows something give some feedback on these pictures? Hopefully nothing too bad, but I'm sure it is worth some preventive treatment.

I cannot seem to add an inline photo, so it is a link to a google photo album.

Cheers
From those pictures it actually looks good but without seeing it in the flesh it could be a different story.
Phil.
