QP V 2004 Front lower control arm

Dear All,

I am hoping there may be someone who can help with my dilemma.

The car has a failed lower ball joint in the front drivers side control arm (wishbone). Having managed to source a replacement from Greg in Tipperary and then trying to fit it, it seems that our friends in Italy decided to change the fitment at some point. Not wanting to have to spend £750 + VAT on a replacement plus fitting, I was wondering if anybody knows more about the subtleties of the design and changes and if a part number is available - the parts number on Eurospares is for a whole wishbone including the bushes (which I had already bought and changed as these were originally diagnosed as being the problem!)

Either that, or does anybody know of a 2004 QP V being broken?

Thanks

Hi there - sorry to hear that, I've just had my wishbone bushes replaced at great cost but luckily my ball joints are ok (they better bloody had be !)

I wasn't aware that there were differences in control arms, but give the chaps at Autoshield a call. The Eurospares website can apparently be a bit misleading (I ended up ordering the incorrect bushes as the part number was wrong on Eurospares) so probably better to get the experts to do the ordering for you when you do find what you need.

Please do post your findings back up as there will be a number of peeps in this position as we go on.

Cheers and good luck

I had major front suspension work completed by Emblem on my 2006 QP last year. The issues first came to notice during a routine Hunter geometry alignment at a local tyre specialist. When loosening an adjusting bolt, an oil filled bush leaked onto the garage floor. Apparently a special Maserati tool is needed to exchange the old bushes for new. There was also play in the shock absorber bushes but not the ball joints as advised in the MOT. In the end I opted for a future proofing comprehensive solution and replaced both upper and lower wishbones complete with ball joints, bushes and uprights on both sides. Two kits were needed at a cost of £639.76 plus VAT each. Two shock absorber bushes were also replaced and these amounted to a total of £145.20 plus VAT.

I was told that Maserati want to discourage owners from separating and then replacing the ball joints in isolation for fear of causing damage. Apparently it is for this reason that wishbone kits are available.

Paul

Seems cheap Paul - I understand the wishbones top and bottom are £1k per side ? Did you replace the full lot incl wishbone or just the bushes ?

I understand the ball joints are not replaceable, you need to replace the whole wishbone ?

Cheers
