How good is the Quattroporte as a family car in terms of practicality, compared to, say, a BMW 7-Series or a Merc S-Class?

It WILL tick all the boxes and a whole lot more , my own feeling is i would only have one if my kids were 5 and upwards the thought of all that gooey chocolate all over that beautiful leather would drive me crazy least 5 years and upwards they can learn to appreciate it and respect it , certainly has all the creature comforts and power you would ever need out of a family car but the added Kudos and exclusivity that comes with owning a Maserati Just look at Enzo the man has a permanent grin from ear to ear

Agreed, makes a fabulous family car :D
Probably doesn't have the biggest boot in class, but has certainly proved big enough for my need over the past year.
Ride is very comfortable, handles extremely well for a big car, and I just love the sound!

Enzo.

Thanks for all the replies. So I started off wanting to buy a used GranSport or GranTurismo next year. And now I have to add the QuattroPorte into the shortlist too! Decisions, decisions...

If I am ever in the market to change then a QP is definitely a contender. Kids are 5 and 7 and still have to be told to be careful in the back of the 32. Choccies aren't so much a problem as them asking for crisps! To be honest I believe any recent Maser can handle a family and am always perplexed to hear people changing marques cos of kiddies. IMHO the 32,42, GS, QP can all accommodate them. Yes it's a slight compromise but what an upside! Obviously spiders are excluded! Then again we have a camper for the serious trips!

Gransport has loads of room at the back. You might want to cover the back of the driver's and passenger's seat with polythene until the kids are old enough not to kick and scuff

I have started to wish I did this, but to be fair, the seat coating is like a rubberised plastic, so it all rubs off, so no marks to date.

My family have grown up with a GS then a QP and now a GT and although the QP is obviously the most practical any of them make a decent family car. Up until recently my wife has always had a bigger car that we could have used but when clutching for the keys I could never force myself to bypass the Masers. We go away to a boat most weekends in the summer and any of the Masers can take a weekends worth of gear. Like most my kids are no angels but the QP and now the GT have cream leather interiors and they have always cleaned up fine!

I agree with "Scousegit" the QP does make for a good family car, my son is only a tot (2 years old), and even he seems to appreciate that hes in an unusual car, I think he just likes the sound it makes.... it certainly looks better than a family squeezed into an ordinary hatch. With regard to protecting the leather.... I bought a cheap rear seat cover, and some cheapy covers to go over the rear picnic tables.... so apart from some crumbs to hover up now and then, the interior stays clean and non scratched/damaged. I cant think of a nicer and more stylish family car, and what other practical family car do you know that can hit 170mph!!!

Absolutely Dunc , no harm in bringing your kids up in an environment to which you hope they will continue to be accustomed , better to have lived and experienced Maserati leather than to go the whole of ones life without atleast having smelt those 6 cows
