The RAC guy got it started with a battery pack so wasn’t beyond hope yesterday; hopefully a jumpstart will get me there (just hope they have one in stock otherwise I’m stuffed LOL). Found a website (battery megastore) selling S5’s for £120 from memory - free next day delivery - just need to check compatibility

Bosch S5 or S4 are great batteries, always use them but have no experience of stop/start impact which I can be major on a battery not designed for it - stupid technology IMO

Thick sounding question but, unless I’m missing something obvious, my 65 plate GTS hasn’t got start/stop - has it?

Check Eurocarparts online then go to Ebay and often you can buy them cheaper there than in store. You can select to collect it at your local store so it works out to be a good deal.

First time I got in a Ghibli with stop start I was convinced that I would not get home as electricity and Maserati are a strange combination that often fails. That's what makes me nervous about the concept of an all electric Alfieri...

I’ve always had very bad luck with Bosch batteries and my Bosch S5 failed within a few months. Fitted a Duracell and it’s been fine for about a year now, but who knows?! Batteries always seem to be a gamble.

Oh, FFS. Just went out to look at the battery to double-check I'm looking at the correct powered battery (there are 8 S5 versions available) but the car is completely dead. Central locking died. But, the key won't manually open the drivers door, so struggling to get inside the car which will make accessing the boot virtually impossible. Can't see detail in the manual about accessing when the car battery is dead so scratching my head somewhat. E-mailed the supplying dealer this morning but not heard back so going to call. Might be another RAC job and try to blag myself out of the £40 additional charge!!!

That's weird. Is the manual lock / keyhole just solid from lack of use? Would gentle pressure and a squirt of oil do it?

Regardless of whether your car has start/stop, a start/stop battery will be better suited to heavy use and is therefore likely to be a bit more robust. So goes my simple-minded reasoning, anyway. All other things being equal, I'd go for start/stop over regular.

Incidentally, check the physical dimensions of the battery and make sure you're buying one the same size. Sounds obvious, I know, but Eurocarparts have previously listed the GTS battery incorrectly. Not sure if they ever fixed it, but for the sake of no effort at all it's worth it.

Try the manual button on the door. The large one is electrical and the small one on the inner handle is manual release.

Once in the car there is a manual pull chord to get in the boot. It's under the rear seat. On the UK model, behind the passenger.

Good thunking, Phil. I interpreted the post to mean that the lock would not unlock. If it's just a matter of using the magical 'second' door release this may be an easier fix!

OP - it's at the read of the door handle. Larger black plastic knob, needs a firm squeeze.

Thanks guys. I've been a little too gentle with the handle; I'm in now and the boot open.

Spoken to the supplying dealer who is 'happy' to pay for the new battery. When asked which one he'd suggest (Halfords/whatever RAC supply/Bosch) he initially suggested whatever I felt comfortable with. He did suggest the official Maserati one isn't the best, especially at twice the price, but then started to hesitate due to any potential future warranty issues that could be blamed on an incorrect battery. I've told him to check what battery I should fit so not to have any warranty issues - can't say I'm overly bothered what I have so long as it works as they all seem to be covered by 5 years warranty anyway (ironically my failed Masser battery is just 3 years old yet not covered!).

FWIW when I buy from Eurocarparts I have a battle every time with a cash account. They close them down if not used for a few months. so now I call and say "Oh it looks like you've shut it down again", "it was a cash account anyways so what's the price so I can let my customer know". then when you get the discounted price just ask them for a quote reference and tell them its ok you will have it at that cost and will be in later to pick up and will speak to main accounts to resolve the account issue.
Sounds long winded but when your in the store with the order code they just let you have it ;)

The one from Halford is out of the running. It's only 85Ah/800A compared to the 100Ah/850A of the original battery. The one you've linked above is only 830A too. I'm struggling to find a Bosch with 850A!!

My 830A works fine though. What would be the benefit of an extra 20A? Even the one on Eurocarparts is the 830A one.
