Replacement Intake and Sound Chamber Set

Seeing as I could tick most of the boxes on the thread about old men looking like c..k's in convertibles, I thought I would add to the cringe factor and have purchased a red finish intake housing with carbon sound chambers from Urutu in the US to replace the OE black plastic.

Cost about £265 inc courier and customs at poor exchange rate. Thoughts? Cool or C..k? 7094270943

Meh. I'm with Catman. Kings robes.
Having had numerous Kawasakis with 'Ram- Air' technology, you cannot 'muck' around too much with the induction without making changes to the carburation (or fuel injection) so if no changes are required to the fuelling, then what benefit will it have? Induction noise tends to be drowned out by the exhaust noise anyway.

I can understand why you did it - looks good in a nice new clean engine bay like yours. Especially with the red body and head covers.

But for me, I can think of better things to spend that sort of wedge on. Cleaning my engine bay would be a start!

What is this "induction" noise? and where best to hear this?
Eb

You can hear it pretty clearly on mine courtesy of this cone filter which was a standard fit to the Trofeo cars. It has a large intake in the bonnet to allow for plenty of air to enter the cone, and no air box or engine cover the restrict the air

And yes, the rather crusty looking expansion tank has since been replaced with a shiny new one

I thought it would have mixed reaction! BTW, I have done it for pure cosmetics so it goes well with the red crackle finish cam covers, and being a concours saddo, I'll admit my engine bay looks like new as I hardly ever use the car and spend far more time cleaning it than driving it. The DB4GT is what I race rather than clean, but h aving said that, I'm trying the GC out on my home circuit on a track day at Snetterton next Mon 8th for the first time (yes its actually taking place!) as a change from the Astons or roller-skate Mito

I'm under no missaprehension whatsoever that there is any performance or sound benefit from this mod..... I'm fitting an X pipe from Marios for that!

What do these actually do and what are the horn bits?

Is there anything inside them or is it just about bouncing air around etc etc ?

How rigid is that silicon hose?

You’re going from a fixed part (air box) to a moving one (engine). The oem tube is quite flexible.

It's just the air feed from the box.

The horns are resonators. I understand that they reduce standing waves in the incoming air to smooth it out. The claim is that the carbon fibre ones are tuned differently to produce a different / better sound / power....

So why don't we all do this?

I believe that to get the most benefit from the cone filter, you need a really good amount of clean, cool air to be sucked in so you need the intake in the bonnet which only the Stradale has. Even then, the intake on the Strad bonnet is only half the depth of the one on the Trofeo bonnet so any possible gain would be negligible and if not done correctly, the cone filter can have a detrimental effect

Cheers Cat, so the fact they are there does something with the air flow etx. Similar principle to ram’s in that they play about with the air flow, of course resonators aren’t claiming to be rams.

I utilise CFD through work so totally up with these type things I just wasn’t sure if there was some internal furniture going on inside them

looks smart with your car.
was it awkward to fit? The corrugation in OEM part helps during removal. I compress it to shrug it off the intake. Makes easier access to the air filter. Guess the correct method is to unbolt filter housing first, but I am a bit lazy.
