I feel strangely drawn to this wedge shaped slice of Gandidni's back catalogue as an entry into Maser based masochaism, anyone know it or anything about it....?

Asking for a friend, who knows full well a decent QPV can be had for a few sovs more, the same friend is blaming lockdown for giving it some consideration.... ;)

Been for sale for a little while with the same photos. Pretty sure @Ewan said it belongs to or belonged to a Maserati OC member.

The 6 speed manual EVO is the cream of the QP IV crop. But not the most robust car ever built, so you need to buy with care. Probably only a dozen or so left in the UK, and this is a known car in the Club having been used on several recent events. Annoyingly, even wear items such as front brake discs are no longer available, so ownership is not without its challenges...

QPV is better, but that's not necessarily the point. The QP IV still has a charm all of its own.

Out of interest what happens in the senario that it needs new disks? What do owners do? Can you have them fabiricated? Or fit an alternative disk or complete break setup? How do people keep these on the road?

You could get a bell and disc made up like most modern race cars.

Thanks for your replies so far gents, very informative, I was actually looking at QPVs on AT and this is in amongst them, I've always had a liking for them and have been watching a few youtube clips on them this afternoon. Good to know it's an enthusiast owned car but as said above the parts issue such as discs etc could be a problem somewhere down the line. It is tempting though..... it's affordable, a right hooker in a nice colour combo (I love that interior!), I've got somewhere to put it and I'd have enough left over for the slush fund.... ;)

There's something curiously attractive about it, which is a bit of a paradox because it isn't particularly a looker.

Wait, that didn't make sense at all.

Good question, for which I have no answer. However, the scarcity of parts was the key reason why I sold my last one (which was a lovely example). Same reason why I’d not buy a 3200 with an end float problem, as the parts required for an engine rebuild are no longer available.

This era of Maserati has a serious problem when it comes to parts supply. For an older car, e.g. Ghibli, Bora, etc, the value means remanufacturing parts is viable. But with the cars from around the year 2000, it’s not the case.

Makes me wonder how McGrath, Shiltech etc get on when customer's cars of this period come in for such work....?

I recall a post re Emblem rebuilding a 3200 engine and most of the time was on the phone trying to find old new stock parts

Yes - that 3200 belongs to a friend of mine. The engine rebuild took the best part of a year all in. Just as an example, you can no longer buy a crankshaft for a 3200. So he had to find several used ones, have them stress tested for cracks etc, and pick the best one. This all takes time and costs money. Bottom line, if your 3200 suffers from end-float damage now, the repair is highly likely to be more expensive than the car is worth. But of course, that doesn't stop a true Maser 3200 fan from taking on the challenge, and nor should it.

For parts that are NLA, they cope with difficulty, and a mix of ingenuity, delays and much expense. Virtually anything can be re-manufactured, but it takes time and costs a lot of money.

I read somewhere that only around two thousand QPIVs were built (happy to be corrected on that) so at some point the parts supply / availability will pretty much up, unless a good parts donor can be found at the right price - this is the the one thing that's making me hesitate about the car I initially posted about, otherwise it seems to be a very good example. Had a few hours to kill at work yesterday so delved into the Brooklands road test book covering the '82 to '98 period Masers, I find it helpful going back to the warts and all period reviews. Have to admit, the chase is all part of the fun.

Really like this QPIV (which would fit my garage), but the heartstrings are nudging me towards a QPV....!

I believe Tar Ox can make bespoke brake systems. An off the shelf big brake kit for most cars is around £1200-2500. Can’t imagine what a bespoke one is.
Then again I guess if you buy a QPIV you know what you’re letting yourself in for

Yeah the original Ottocilindris got a pasting in the press. The Sport Evos got a much more favourable review. I think something like 1000 bits of it were new (my memory is fading).
