Was fitting new front pads and wear sensors (thanks for supply Zep) and given what I had seen of the metal plates behind the front wheel arch covers on the 2007 GT project on YouTube, thought I should check.

The chassis had been properly descaled and treated by Rustbuster as per the start of this thread, and they had taken the wheel arch covers off and refitted with stainless bolts, so so far so good.

However as they didn’t consider these plates to be part of the subframe structure, it looks as though these were left untreated as per photo. Not too bad, but corrosion started on the edges.

Ive now taken them off, descaled and painted with smooth hammerite paint so should keep the tinworm at bay for now. This is a 2010 GC with 35k miles, SORN’d from Nov to April so no salty roads. The paint the factory use is clearly not fit for purpose!

The similar panels on my daily driven 2006 QP were bit further gone, beyond colander. Hade new ones fitted during subframe replacement.
Anyone with car older hen ten years.....
Get your wheel arch liners out, sort out the crusty bits and re-fit with new fasteners /clips where needed. Only now after huge corrosion repair do I apprecaite how vital undertrays and arch liners are.

Hi Guys,
Anyone know of a good rustproofing company in Buckinghamshire which can be recommended? I live in South Bucks near Beaconsfield.

Hi Templar,
I had my QP done by these guys 2 years ago. Full Dinitrol treatment - all covers off, cavities treated, surface rust taken back/neutralised, treated. They had the car for 5 days iirc. They put new panels in the front arches forward of the arch liners.
Need to get it back there for a follow up inspection, but they did a great very thorough job. It was approx 1300 quid including the replacement bits.
Not sure what their current open/closed status is at the moment though.
Cheers
Ian

Hi - I'm just up the road in Chesham. Don't forget to flash :)

I've kept Ian's original post on Pro-Tect bookmarked and will be looking into using them too:

Also worth talking to whoever does your annual service to see if it can be done at the same time (I think Matt / Conaero at SportsItalia can help for instance - a bit further down to the south coast, but worth it combined with other work).

I looked at that post and saw it said the steel panels behind the front arch liners were only about £50 each. I descaled and painted mine as not too bad as per photo above, but had I checked the cost I might have just replaced them. Tempted to do that now.

Does anyone know the part numbers for both left and right panels for a GT/GC? Thanks!

I'm delighted that these threads have started.
I was considering having mine done over the winter at DL's as a background job having been shown what they're doing to a '98 Ferrari. However careful and scrutiny they would have been I was put off by the price.
Your £600 does seem a bargain in comparison.
I need to find one as assiduous in their attention more locally. 1 hour from Stow on the Wold (as my closest 'major ' settlement).

Try here. They got a good write up on PH last year and they did my classic range rover a few years back and that's still in decent shape. Not too far from Stow - Westbury

Hi Ian & David, Thank you for your posts. You will probably se that Matt at Sportsitalia has also sent me a quote which I am currently following up on for more details. I will let you know what I decide.

My GTS was there last week for some work including rustproofing.
Highly recommend them.

Managed to find them with help from Scuderia Parts. Both are £73.65 plus VAT. For anyone else that needs them P/N is 68446600 for R/H and 68446700 for L/H

Hi All,
After obtaining quotes from Sportsitalia, South West Rustproofing and Pro-Tec I have decided to go with the latter. Not the cheapest but much nearer to my home so much easier and they get very good reports and chatting to them they are knowledgeable on Maseratis which must be a plus point. Unless they get a cancellation they can't fit me in until the beginning of March but I am hoping they might be able to do the work before then but we shall see.
If anyone is interested I will post updates. Thanks for all the inputs up to now much appreciated.

Given the substantial cost involved + the criticality of the work it was immaterial where the car went. One local firm "had a go" at subframe during MOT which only painted over the worst. A proper MOT failure on subframe will kill our cars. Officially subframe must be replaced NOT repaired. The stock of subframes is zero at last count.
My car went from Bedfordshire to Sportsitalia - on a truck due to lockdown. Would have driven there and got train back if needed. Choose wisely after looking at all of the horrowshow pictures. Use anywhere trustworthy, but for me it would be a maserati specialist.

Take it to Matt and Ashley. Like mine trailored to them. They are exceptionally rigorous.

Now fitted the new L/H headlight panel behind the wheel arch liner, and then applied a good coating of Dinitrol to protect it so no risk of reoccurrence of the rust.

easy to work on thanks to my new Quickjack lifts. The 5000EXT version is the ones you want as SWL of 2.3 tonnes and just long enough to get to the correct jacking points on a GT/GC7854178542

interesting lift. Still uncertain about scissor lift like this or a two post unit for head height work.

I agree about the limited working height, but conversely these can be used in garages with low ceilings and you can still get fully under the car.

A major plus point is that it’s fit for purpose as regards the SWL and reaches the correct jacking points if you get the 5000 EXT version as you get almost 1.7 M max length between jacking points.

The other major plus points are that it’s totally portable and doesn’t need securing to the garage floor and there is nothing between the frames so you can get underneath unimpeded to work on the car.

Only downside for me is that the mains powered version is not CE approved for Europe, so you can only get the 12v DC version that needs to be connected to a car battery with jump leads, although that does mean you could use it in a circuit paddock if you wanted to e.g change wheels for a track day or race. I’ve attached the setup video that shows how it all goes together and how to use it. Overall I’m delighted with it and next job is fitting the Maxton side skirts. Photos to follow.

Hi All,

An update on the rustproofing of my 2012 GT at Pro-tect Services Ltd near Milton Keynes. I have just collected my GT and I am super impressed with the service, friendly attitude of the staff, attention to detail and the standard of the work.
They carry out a full check of the car and fortunately mine was generally OK with some surface rust to the underside but no problem with the dreaded subframes. Throughout the process they keep in touch with before and after photos of the work which is carried out using Dinitrol products. What they actually do is detailed on their website www.pro-tectservices.co.uk so I won't go through all the work they do here. Speak to Frankie or Dave their help is invaluable as they have rustproofed a number of Maseratis so know all the problems which can occur.

Do you mind me asking how much they charged?

No problem with VAT it came to £1074.00. A good price seeing the work they did. I had no welding to be done which would have cost more.
