Rusty door bottoms - common problem?

Hi,

Iv seen a couple of early granturismos and both have rusty door bottoms at the front end of the car (both passenger side in a RHD)

I won’t mention where these cars are from as i don’t feel it’s fair on the owners and I know they are both on here

But I’m wondering if it’s a common problem?
Has anyone had this repaired?
What was the cost to have it done?
Did it ever look right again after having paint?

Thank you in advance

Jake

The doors are steel apparently, and it’s 100% rust :(

(I own a lot of classic cars haha)

that'll be the Italians using dodgy Russian steel again then, cant beat a good bit of 100% rust ;), is it bubbling up from under paintwork?

Haha

Unfortunately yes, both the ones iv seen it’s bubbled up and broken through the paint,

I’m guessing it’s not a common fault then... haha just coincidence

It’s probably scraping to the bottom of the door against the sill...over time it rubs the paint off then the rest is just science.

suppose depends if it's simply as conaero mentions or more worryingly with rust actually bubbling up from inside out due to blocked drainage holes and/or poor internal paint coverage, not an easy repair to do if it is the latter and want all rust removed/treated properly, especially if steel perforated as well

that looks as rough as a badgers 4rse, hard to tell from photo, but guessing from the "orange peel" finish of paint it looks like a sh1t repair/respray job possibly??

I’d agree on this one,
Looks like some one has half arsed fixed it in the past

The other is fresh though, no bad repairs. But still looks the same all be it a smaller patch

I’m lucky! My wife isn’t bothered about clothes! Or bags! Or even shoes!! Haha

But.... she has a horse.... and that... that she’s obsessed with -_- haha

Difficult to say from the pic but it looks like that door is fouling the front wing as well - has to be a dodgy repair.

Because of where it is I think it would be difficult to scrape on a high pavement?
I might be completely wrong though! Haha

I agree on this car I posted a picture of the paint is bad and looks to have previously had paint

But the other car does not, the paint is perfect around it, but it’s still rusty in the exhaust same spot.

I’m guessing even though Iv only seen 2 cars in detail, and both have had this rusty door, it’s not a common fault haha

Just coincidence!
