Hi,

I'm looking for recommendations on the best grit grade to get for removing surface rust and bubbling paint on the inner arches of my GS?

I just want to keep it at bay and treat for now until I can get it professionally done!

Thanks!

Use 80 grit first to remove rust, sand with 180grit after and apply a etch primer, then a aerosol 1k primer, then apply paint.

Rust in the inside arches is a pig to treat and stop properly. You will need to get to the whole area as it will soon spread and be on the outside of the wings in a year or so.

Wheels off, arch liner out and make sure you get it all or you will be back to square one soon.

use this stuff before painting otherwise it will come back if not treated first, it does a top job on neutralizing any remaining rust and coating the steel

+2POR15.......I would also recommend sealing the arches with a Silicon based treatment (masked off with tape to make it neat) prior to paint finishes. It gives a more water tight seal and stones are more prone to bounce off your arches rather than chip the paint off. I have had this carried out on both mine...

silicon & paint = :yeah:
Just sayin'...!
I might go a polymer primer post metal prep as a stopover...!
There are all sorts of truck bed coatings that would work well inside arches ...?

Thanks for all the recommendations.

I will also need touch up paint, the dealers don't offer it anymore, is there a place that will make the colour up?

I also heard good things about Eastwood rust converter and protection paint, has anyone used this?

All sorts of ways to go about this. No right or wrong way really. Some work better for others hence the question for advice in the first place!!

you can get automotive seam sealers used on car panels that's fully paintable, obviously ideal for sealing panel gaps/joins etc, available in a cartridge or paintable with a brush

Guys, I have some stone chips. Until I can get them professionally fixed, I want to touch them up. Where can I buy touch up paint for a 2008 QP in Bordeaux Pontevecchio ? Preferably the sort with the colour and metallic in one pack rather than two. I'm expecting the kit to include a second lacquer coat.

Have a look at the chipex website I’ve used this before with good results. They will match to the colour code of the car.
