Sat nav

Hi folks, Ok - I am new not only to this forum but also to Maserati/ Always loved them ever since way back when - just never got round to owning one. ill post a profile later and get up to speed. I bought a rather nice Red Maserati 4200 Coupe - 2004 vintage but with only 28k on the clock and great condition but....... couple of small issues.
This one is SAT Nav.

Ok so to give all the ol' timers' a giggle - Having decided to view a narrowed down selection of Maserati (5 ) in 2 days and never having owned one before (but a lot of other specialist cars) I may be forgiven for thinking that a button on the media centre saying 'sat nav' was an indication that the car actually HAD Sat Nav..................... I shall ause for a moment for you all to stop laughing.

Pushing said button gets me a message saying that the function is not available. Thing is I would like it to BE available (even if it not even worthy of the name Sat Nav)

Its a Magnetti Marrelli unit, it doesn't have a GPS Aerial fitted - but does have the white socket to fit one.

So what steps do I need to take to get working Satellite Navigation?

Buy / Fit Aerial
Get Sat Nav Discs
Have the NIT activated for Sat Nav

Its the last one I'm not surer about? can it be done? by whom? how much?

Many thanks (in advance)

It can be done and costs buttons...I did it on my first 4200.

The only issue is that the person who had the software disc loaned it out and it was nkt returned...if you can get hold of that disc it takes all of a hour to fit the antenna under the dash to vent and run the wire behind the dash...plug and play into the back of the NIT unit in the arm rest and you are just waiting to flash the NIT with the software disc.

BTW Maserati wanted £700 to do this for me...cost £4.99 plus my time.

I did a how to on the older forum maserati forum uk and David Howson also posted on here details about the NIT unit.

Mine is just missing the sat nav DVD.

Would be good to get hold of one but it really is at the bottom of the priority list as it will be next to useless in practice

MAF suggested a good mobile cradle which attaches to your air vents and won't scratch the powder coat. This way you can mount your phone on your dash and use an application called Waze - it is leagues better than any integrated sat nav installed on modern cars.

Install a Bluetooth loudlink, this way you can link your phone to the cars stereo and it will bark out the nav instructions through the speakers. you can listen to your own music easily and also hands free if you can be bothered to mount the microphone.

This is probably the least painful way to bring the car kicking and screaming into the 21st century

Phone cradle thread as mentioned http://www.sportsmaserati.co.uk/showthread.php/18375-Phone-holder-for-air-vents

I got the logitech magnetic one which looks great in the car but has Scratched the powdercoat a bit when going on. It holds my samsung galaxy note 4 fine even with spirited diving. https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Mobile-P...niversal-Air-Vent-Mount-Smartphone/B00KNU98XC

I can supply mapping discs...I may also have the files for the old NIT software but not sure if it has the navigation codes...dont want to wipe that from someones NIT and make it useless.

Many thanks - appreciated. I believe I have a disc turned up in the post with maps and I shall order up the GPS antenna - I don't get back in to UK until January when I can get stuck in behind the dash - once the hardware is in place I can then find out all about NIT re-flashing :-0

Fernndo - thanks very much for the guidance. I actually have two objectives here. 1st is to get as much on my 4200 cc working as possible - hence activating the Sat Nav and installing all bits missing and secondly to actually navigate somewhere with some accuracy - I have had plenty of opportunity over the years to listen to the " You have arrived" whilst sitting in the middle of an entrance to a ploughed field.
The suggestion to use 3rd party equipment and software is appreciated - I shall be looking into Loudlink and also to Maze - appreciate the guidance.

Cheers

Robin

It's Waze, if you search for Maze you could spend ages going round in circles :D

Ok. Loudlink installed. Lovely bit of kit and using Waze is a breeze. I would like to get the OEM sat Nav up and running though. Does anyone have a lead on where I could get the NIT set up disc for a 2004 4200 cc ? (I've fitted GPS antenna and have Nav discs now)
