Self dipping headlights, am i missing something

Hi All, We took delivery of our new Ghibli Sportivo last week and it doesn’t disappoint. However.... with all the goodies it comes with, inc Bluetooth Apple Car Play ( Very impressed ) ... i seem to be missing self dipping headlights. Surely this can't be something that Maserati doesn’t fit. I can't remember the last car i had which didn't have self dipping headlights. I read a manual online which suggested there should be an option within the lights section in the on the onboard computer just before “switch the headlights on when the windscreen wipers are on”... but i don’t have that. Can anyone confirm if I’m missing something or is this basic function is an optional extra.. or does the car simply not have self dipping headlights… funny how the simplest of things creates an overall disappointment when actuall the car as a whole is amazing :(

My 2014 Ghibli has adaptive headlights which were an option. Not sure if it’s standard or an option on recent cars.

My new BMW has a button for it, and a message telling you that they can activate it for £130 and update it over the air. FFS.

Hi @Simon1963, I think the adaptive headlights are still an option but its a bit out of order that you need that fitted in order to just have auto dimming high beam... kinda leave's a bad taste. I'll be ringing thde dealer tomorrow to find out

If your car has the feature you switch the function on by pushing the steering column stalk away from you and you will feel it click into a new position. You should see a message appear in the display between the dials, something alone the lines of: Adaptive headlights activated.
On my car which although bought in 2015 is a '16 model year spec, the handbook talks about all sorts of high tech beam pattern technology etc but to me I have only seen the auto high beam feature, although it could be doing all the other stuff as well and I have just not noticed!
Whilst with my generation of car I have always found the infotainment screen with the Garmin sourced Sat Nav system and the cars voice activation functions (within the usual limitations of the car understanding the command properly) to be amongst the most effective and easy to use, but the latest cars new systems have added a load more features including I think voice activation for climate control etc. I have always found it worthwhile spending time working out how all these features work, it's a bit like a voyage of discovery when you discover a new function!

@Zep, i have a friend who has a Carly device and has used that on his M4... maybe worth a look as it will be cheaper than getting BMW to enable the feature plus you get lots of other benefits too... unfortunatley the coding part doesnt work on Maserati it seems - https://www.mycarly.com/how-it-works/car-coding/

I have had a look, from what I read, Carly don’t offer much in the way of coding for the G21 as it is a new architecture. But I am sure they will eventually.

Does it have the led matrix lights? If so it may have the adaptive beams rather than the auto dipping.
On mine you select on the centre screen (same display as the driver aids)... then as Keith said you push the indicator stalk forwards. This will activate it. They are very clever and effective

If you have full LED Matrix lights you will notice them working as the light pattern adjust constantly if other vehicles are nearby, even in the same lane as you.

The XC90 has them and I shudder at the thought of how much they will cost if one goes pop!

EUR 7.5k each side in the case of the Bimmer ones.

I can predict a number of cars scraped for the sake of a headlight in a few years... or they become stolen to order or crashed for the insurance payout if a headlight is faulty.
