SERVICE - WHERE TO GO?

Hi Guys,

Hope everyone is well!

I’ve owned my Granturismo MC-Shift for just shy of 2 years now, and know that it was last serviced in February 2019. It has around 11k on the clock. I’m pretty sure that it should be due a service now, most likely Feb? Does it matter that I'm a couple of months late with it?

Anyway, having a car like this is new to me, so I just wanted to get advice about where best you guys think I should have it serviced (as in dealer or private?). I live in Wolverhampton, I believe the nearest Graypaul to me is Solihull (around 45 minutes away).

Where would you recommend I get my car serviced?

Maserati Independent Migliore in Bromsgrove would be the closest. Or The Supercar Rooms Hartlebury.

If either of these independents suggested involves a train ride home, I would recommend Autoshield Maserati in Chorlton, South Manchester. They are close to a tram station that links to Piccadilly station from where you can catch a frequent rail service to the Midlands. Autoshield are excellent and look after my Gransport for the past 5 years now.

Thanks for sharing Koz!

Is it best to stick to a dealer, over private? I'd presume a service at a dealer would be significantly more than private?

My last car I had for close to 10 years (and it was nothing special!), and wasn't really too bothered about where it go serviced. So servicing this 'level' of car is new to me. As silly as this sounds, do Maserati approved private dealers exist, so that it'll technically still have a full Maserati service history? Apologies if this sounds bizarre, I really don't know much when it comes to stuff like this!

I'll check them out.

Do you know how much I'd be looking to pay for this kind of service (as in private compared to dealer)? The last one services I had was the 2nd service I believe.

In terms of cost, the 2nd and 4th (year 4 and year 8) services are the pricey ones. I would advise you to talk to the places concerned as a basic indi service is going to be £600 or so, probably £1k for a MD, but you’ll end up paying more as there will be other bits that need doing, like cam cover gaskets, bushes etc. It also depends on what was done at the last one.

I figure go to a main dealer for the first 5 years or so, to preserve resale value, then a reputable independent specialist for the next 5 years, and after that any local garage for simple mechanical work, and an independent specialist for official services or anything challenging.

The "accepted wisdom " might be use main dealer if you are certain to sell the car. The FMDSH will open up the sale to every interested buyer. The same "accepted wisdom " is circulated amongst buyers new to any marque of car. I was sure this was *correct.

IF you are certain it is a keeper, visit specialist independents and choose one to form a relationship with.

I get it. You were just waiting until you had something important/useful to say.

(My parents claim that I didn't utter a single word until I was 3 when I suddenly said 'Look, mummy, there's a bee stinging a flower!" - So different now.)
