Should I get a QPV, QP6 or Ghibli next?

Advice please.

I hope to have a budget of around £25-35k for a new car in the autumn.

So should I buy the very best QPV still out there, the 'worst' QP6 (like this one) or a really nice Ghibli (like this one)?

Who has made this transition?

I can't quite see myself trading the 4.2 V8 for a 3.0 V6, but maybe it is the way to go.....

Or I could just put £10k into trying to make my current 2009 QPV into 'the best QPV'. Is that a sensible option?

The only QP i like is the type you have.

So if it was me I would get the best available and keep with a BMW Sooter with tge change to keep the Maserati special.

Spend it on your current car. Easy choice. I went through the same thought process over the winter and realised I’ve got a great, rare car so why sell it?

Hmmmm
I am in the same place
What is wrong with the QP6?
Apart from being too big
The Ghibli looks ok but no sunroof
or keep my Exec Gt (2007)??????

QPV. That will save you the emotional scarring no longer owning one will bring and the months looking at them longingly in the classifieds. End of an era car and still the most beautiful saloon on the planet.

I’d go for a sorted QPV, the road presence of a QPV is similar to the one that the 4200 and GranTurismo have. I’m sure the QP6 with the V8 is a riot but the new Chrysler era Maserati just lack the road presence of the QPV.

The best QPV you can buy would be my choice. Someone else has already suffered the lion's share of the deprecation too where as there is more to come from the other two options.

But regardless of the depreciation, it is just about the best looking & sounding four door car built for many a year

The budget should bring a fair amount of choice.
IMHO Stevepen has one of the nicest QP V's on the forum, and it will take some beating. I'm sure there will be one or two around, but it might take a while to track one down.
Investment in your current car depends on its present condition, mileage, and how you personally regard it. Given sufficient funds and parts availability any car can be made perfect, but there is usually a point where it no longer makes economic sense and you then realise that unless it's a very rare or special car the head should rule the heart.
The QP VI is a very big car and so different in character to the V, although you must appreciate that they were conceived at different times for different markets.
I made the transaction from V to VI and don't regret it, though for some unfathomable reason the V hasn't left me yet!

I agree with Ewan. The 4.7 V and 3.8 VI are probably the better QP options, then it's a case of finding the exact car that pleases you in terms of colour combination and specification.

Feel free to pm me if you wish Mark.

Dinnae like the wheels or the wood.......surely CF is the way to go?

As pointed out...upgrade to a GTS.

hoho... hard isn't it.. i am fighting 2 and 4 door and trying to decide between Ghibli Petrol or GTS.... Dismissed the QP VI as it just looks too stretched compared to the V.... Sorted QPV V8 all day...

Great responses so far, thanks.

I like the wood and a light-coloured interior, so most of the QPV GT S models that I have seen would be out, with their horrid black leather and 'carbon fibre' trim. Although you do occasionally see a 'gentleman's GT S'. Also, I hear the ride is a bit hard.

My QPV runs well, but it is a 4.2 and is 2009 with over 70,000 miles, so probably not the best starting point for a refurb, unfortunately.

The QP6 is indeed really big - perhaps too big for me, but also the interiors seem really soul-less with bland flat surfaces covered in what looks more like plastic than leather or wood. Even the crema/walnut ones don't quite look right to me.

What about the Ghibli? Better size and modern technology. Just need to cram a V8 under the bonnet I suppose.....

I don’t think you can really make the call as both QP’s are so rare that you’ll just have to see what’s available come the time you’re ready. If you are buying a Ghibli then it’s way easier, there’s >160 of them for sale today. If the car is a daily, I’d be looking to try to buy a low mileage Ghibli S or QPVI 3.8 just because they’re a lot newer car than a QPV GTS.
