If like me, you have a battery thirsty phone and found that on a long journey with several apps open, the phone would struggle to charge through this system, I've found a neat solution.

https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01N0VBH63/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You just plug this into both USB outputs on the android box which doubles up on the power to your phone.

I've fitted it today, and although it doesn't activate 'fast charging' it does half the charging time so should be up to the job of fully charging the phone even during heavy use.

Does anyone @conaero ? know the passcode to enter the Android box settings menu?

I assume that's where the android clock can be adjusted from, which I'd like to do.

Yeah would be nice, as the clock annoys me..
Did anyone ever get an answer to this? I want to go into the settings as well.

@conaero Any help with this at all please Matt? or if you don't know the answer, are you able to tell us who the supplier/manufacturer is so I can contact them to find out?
I have pretty much tried every android passcode I can find on google and none have worked so far.

Right, an update. The old carplay/Android Auto box has been discontinued but there is a new one which is carplay wireless and AA wired.

A box to test has been sent to me so I will test over Xmas then look to place an order in the NY.

Ditto. Despite recently having bought a new NIT, which is 'wonderful ' compared to my previous NIT but still cr@p.

That is the news I have been waiting for. If you want a test car for the new unit, I am happy to bring mine down and have it installed.

would this be replacing the entire android box or just the USB carplay dongle? I had to open mine up this fall as the tape that was holding the touchscreen had failed and the screen shifted downward. While i was in there, i used a usb extension to reroute the UBS dongle directly behind my glove box to allow easy replacement when a good wireless option came out.

Finally, a kind soul shared this with me, but it comes with a warning!
It is possible to render the unit completely useless if you accidently adjust the wrong settings, so USER BEWARE!!!!
The code is 9188

Using the above code, I was able to enter the Android box settings and adjust the date and time without issue. Its pretty straight forward, but as above, please be careful what you press!

Quick question, the aucar has an integrated dsp which is quite a nice addition for these cars. Does this new version have something similar?

The entire box, no dongle and no initial Android boot

No but you simple press and hold the phone button on the steering wheel and it flips between oem and Android systems. So your car can has the appearance of the oem system.

It’s going to go in my car first plus an upgraded capacitive touchscreen which is much more responsive.

It will be £100 more for the new box and upgraded touchscreen plus I will offer the upgrade box and screen kit for £250 for those whom wish to upgrade the gen one SM Carplay kit.

Also I am being told the new box will be Android Auto wireless connection in the new year.

That's a **** of a good deal, Matt. I can't even bring myself to type what I'm paying for my upgrade. Cheaper options were available, but they involved drilling and new buttons, and I ain't up for that ****.

Sorry, i was being an idiot. The audio will come from the new unit when using my phone to stream. So it should be miles better then the oem pre filtered audio out signals.

Looking forward to this, sounds like a great update with the new box and better screen.

The kit uses the Aux In to the existing system, so you select that input and the rest of the system works as before.
