I want a GSXR 750 again, but with my hip I know it’s a stupid idea....

Alltho the NC35 was I think the best bike I ever had.

I can’t explain why, but I’m drawn towards buying a Yamaha GTS1000A. I know they’re underpowered and there are better bikes of that period available but still quite fancy one. Someone talk me out of it.
Cant help you there..
I love a Yamaha....!

Too be fair back in 78 me my twin brother and mates were out all the time trying to see if we could get 60 miles an hour down hills.
We were lucky that we were 16 in our 5th year as it was then and went out every school lunchtime testing the theory.
I'm amazed I have got to nearly 58.

I've been away from the forum for a while but I am glad to be back amongst friends. Some may recall my special air-cooled Norton Rotary. Well, I had all sorts of compression problems and finally gave in and stripped the engine down.

The long and the short of it was that the moly coating on both side plates had cracked and just came out with a finger nail. Lucky not to have had a complete engine catastrophe.

I refitted the engine but had all manner of problems setting up running and just left it for a couple of years because work got in the way. The one good thing about this current enforced lockdown is that I have had a chance to revisit it, and lo and behold, after refitting the carbs and air pipes it has started to behave nicely.

I've uploadede a short video file to youtube in case anyone is interested.

In the video it's running with a bit of choke so a bit fast but it idles at about 1,000rpm when warmed up.

Just need to wait until I can MOT it and take it out for a shake down.

Best wishes to all,

Marco07

That’s a 1936 Lagonda. 4.5litre job. I found it bricked up in a garage in Lowestoft and restored it about 6 years ago. Wonderful project but a LOT if work. You guys complain about the lack of parts for a 3200.....I had to make most of this!!

I'm very much a Ducati man. Had an M821, a 998s and the 899 which is a keeper.
Prior to these i run a HD 883 for some time and my first bike was an aprilia 125 2T which I regret selling for very little to make space.

Sold my 1994 Buell S2 thunderbolt to finance Corvette rebuild. The most interesting bike I've had was a Suzuki RE5 rotary. Sold it to a bud who had a Khamsin.

I've cut down a bit, but still have:-

650ss Norton
750 Triumph Trident T150
750 Honda RC30
400 Honda RVF NC35
900 Triumph Trophy
955 Triumph Daytona
748r Ducati

The last couple of months have been spent recommissioning the Ducati that had been off the road for twelve years.

At least they were better than the Teflon coated Bridgestones that were supplied with Japanese bikes at the time.

Me too Newton missing riding.
Really regret selling my 76 Z1000 Back in Somerset.
Been looking and fancying a Z900 RS in the orange and brown.
Only seem to read great reviews on this bike.

Thinking on motorbike tyres; we have to be VERY thankful of radials on motorbikes, they only made it onto bikes in the early/mid 80's The old x-ply were all pretty awful. With the advent of radials came tubeless and even balancing!

I just had a memory pop into my head, would have been about 16 at the time and a friend came around on a mid 70's Honda CB750 Four. Next thing I know is he chucks me the key and says go play! within a mile I was blasting up to triple figures when it goes into a massive tank slapper!!!! I powered through it and felt happy I'd kept it upright as the cold realisation hit me I had to go back through it slowing down! Sure enough it gave me an even bigger scare as expected. I took it back keeping it under 80 and recalled it to him and his reply was "Oh yeah it does that"....!

Things were not all rosy with radials though there was the Dunlop Arrowmax - The only tyres I have ever thrown away nearly new!
